Picked up a bow a few weeks ago and I can't find a release I like. My cousin gave me a wrist/index finger one, but my fingers are very long and I haven't been able to find one that I don't have to cramp my hand to shoot.

I'm thinking about trying a thumb or hinge release. What y'all use? Why is it better than the others?

I started with a strap release several years ago. Got into 3d and made the move to a thumb release. I shoot a carter jus b cuz now. Will never go back to a strap style release. Go try a few out and see what fits.

Why do you think you shoot better with the thumb release? I’ve considered getting one for a few years now but just haven’t done it.

A Short N Sweet. Just a hook for my loop for a clean release, and short body gets my hand closer to the string for better form.

Most releases are adjustable for longer fingers. Usually an allen bolt that you back off and you can rotate the release to make it longer.

I have shot a Scott Little Goose for about 12 years but I've been thinking of switching to something I can clip on my D-Loop and let it hang until I'm ready to shoot.

I hate having the wrist strap on when it's cold and I'm trying to put my hand in my hand muff.

I need to go hit up a bow shop and try a few out I guess.

If you are thinking about going to a thumb release, i suggest you find a used hinge or back tension release and learn from that. Once you have mastered that, if you decide to use a thumb release, you will be firing it just like the others--by rotation or back tension and not using your thumb.

I use a carter evolution which is a true tension release. After about 25 years of shooting a bow, i developed target panic and the only reason i'm still bow hunting is because of that release.

I use a carter chocolate addiction, If you’re using a hand release make a wrist loop with some d loop material. I may or may not have sent my release down range once or twice.

I had gotten into a bad habit of punching the trigger(index finger). That started leading to a good dose of target panic. So I had to make a change. It may not have made me a better shot. May have been that I felt more comfortable in my release. I will say this, fit and feel are extremely important with the thumb style releases. One too small or too large will allow you too form some bad habits. Your shots will suffer.

I’ve had a Scott little goose for 15+ years. It’s a great release

I shoot a Carter Choclate addiction. I found it gives a better anchor point and has made my groups more consistent.
