I bought a Hoyt and I am getting into bow hunting. What would a good broad head be?

Rage but they are high and fragile.

Go on Amazon and buy some knock off rage (hypordermic) to practice with. Then buy a 3 pack of good ones to hunt with

Get a quiver which protects the broadheads while walking through the woods

I have used a bunch of different broad heads and I can tell you that over the last 15 years I've gravitated over to smaller fixed blades. Tried expandables(rage/schwacker/wasps) and they fly true to field points but there is always a possibility that they don't open and/or open prematurely. With that being said I now solely use slick trick magnums. They fly like field points and punch holes through nearly any shot on a deer. Doesn't matter if you hit ribs or the shoulder its going through. Out of ten deer taken in the last six years with my bow, I've only had one run more than 50 yards and that was due to poor shot placement on my part.

Man you will here 1000 different opinions. everyone will recommend you what they use. With these new bows, all the broadheads will do the trick. Find one you like, and get it.

PS- i use grim reapers

Whichever one tickles your fancy for whitetail. Just make sure they are accurate out of your bow.

Fixed:
Slick Tricks
g5 Stryker
Montec

Mech:
g5 T3
GraveDigger

I'm trying out the Bloodsport Night Fury this year. Time will tell.

All of the stuff on the market will kill deer. It's all about shot placement. Practice with your broadheads, whichever you choose.

I am shooting at least 3 times a week, Ohio/WV hunting season opens next weekend. I am getting ready to try and kill a public land monster.

Do you know what distance you will be trying to shoot at? Almost all of my bow shots are less than 25yds so I tend to use fixed broadheads. At that distance I've found the fixed blade's don't really mess with the accuracy that much. I've found that the mechanical broadheads are more accurate on further shots, but as others have said you do run the slight risk of a malfunction.

I shoot Rage Xtreme 2.3 inch. I haven’t lost any deer with them. I think the newer rage have a better design to prevent malfunction. I’d shoot the 2 blade over the 3 blade.

Honesty I think this comes down more to how tuned your bow is and how accurate your shot is. Make a good shot and all of them will kill the deer. My rule of thumb is don’t shoot deer that are quartering towards you at all.

Damn son, I'd be way more concerned about my climbing harness than my broadhead sitting up that high!

Can't say enough about grim reapers. I shoot the standard 100gr 3 blade 1-3/8" cut. If you do your part, they'll do theirs. I tracked 2 deer shot with those heads this weekend. Didn't even have to bend over to follow the bloodtrails. Walked at a normal pace for about 40 yards each time and easily found both deer. Excellent product. I had 2 brand new slick trick magnum ss break off in a block target. I know they've got a huge following, I just didn't care for them. And they absolutely destroy targets when you're pulling the arrow out.

I shoot ram cats best cut I have found and very true flying, I don't dislike the reapers. I have just found that the slightest mistake shot in the shoulder and no penetration, also I have seen them not open just my 2 cents.

I switched to exodus this year. Haven't shot a fixed blade in a long time but I heard good things and decided new bow, new broadhead.
