We hunted hogs out in San Saba this spring and a guy had a trap like that. He said we could bait it but didn't give any other instructions. We caught 8 in the first night and shot them all in the pen. The guy was kind of pissed at us cause he later said the pigs wouldn't come back to the trap bc of the blood and brains all over the ground.
Idk if that's all true or not, but that what he told us.

I'm in the minority but we don't eat any of those killed in summer months...and it takes a <80 lb sow for me to think about cleaning one of those nasty bastards. Buzzards gotta eat too.

We have sprayed brains all over our trap and caught more after in the same trap/location. It probably doesn't help, but if there are enough in the area it won't matter.

Well that's bs cause I've kilt 2-4-2-1 last week with the 45 to the head. A couple days I didn't set it back because I was busy & couldn't get back there.
I think when they are around & want something to eat all the blood/brain smell doesn't matter

You should catch the biggest two, castrate them if necessary. Feed them slop and your table scraps for 2 months.
The best investment you can imagine. It tastes better than store bought pork and you may put in 100 dollars worth of feed.

Populatuon pest control and grocery shopping
Shoot in trap.
Big boars will come eat and root up blood in the sand and I have photos of hogs eating on hog carcasses.
Pigs come back but the learn too. I usually don't bait again for a couple of weeks but when pigs are bad and trap is in a good spot youcan catch em on back to back days.
Had 20 in trap. 12 boars 8 sows. All arou dd 40-50 lbs.
Two given to a neighbor, 3 cleaned whole by friends, 12 "field filleted" back straps cut out only, a few of those we also harvested undamaged hams and shoulders, 3 were tossed.
100 degrees here and the tossed ones had all accidentally been gutshot by pass through shots on other hogs.
The meat is great if they are cleaned quickly and placed on ice.

We do...but the most we have ever trapped at once was 4 or 5.

Myself, a .22 to the head has worked good.

Weapons
Saiga 12 with #8 bird shot
22LR
Two .45's
And the land owners AR in 223.
Fwiw FMJ 45 and FMJ 223 are not good for this. Too much pass through.
We try to make individual head shots.

Yeah seems like you would want clean shots with hollow point.
Awesome pics

Ear hole shots with 22 short will drop them but trying to get them to turn side ways is difficult. They normally either have their arse to you or they are starring right at you. For a head on between the eyes shot you can't beat 12 gauge shot. Drops em in their tracks.

Shotguns to the dome can tend to get a little messy though

Second to last pic looks like a scene in a horror movie.
Nice pig killing. Only a few million more to go.

Birdshot at close range keeps mess down.
