coming back from a day of fishing on saturday, we could see a huge cloud of black smoke rising in the air in the direction of South pass. when we reached the mouth, we saw this express burning. look like it tried to run over the jetty. was following along on the radio, apparently the coast guard got the men out of the water before we arrived. was wondering if anybody else saw this, or knows any details. hope the crew is ok.

Sure as hell not the first time a boat ran aground there or hit the pilings that are under water on the other side of the pass. Why people run fast thru that pass? It is not that deep even in the channel.

from what ive heard, it was the third one in two weeks. dont people know how to read the channel markers? a first time boater usually isnt at the helm of a big express like this....

Something seems fishy about this.......how in the hell does this sort of thing happen? You would have to think this boat had top of the line electronics, and the guy at the helm wasn't a first timer.

Add to it, there was apparently also a 17' vessel that capsized in the west delta block yesterday. We were picking up the CG Grand Isle station's chatter, but the responding vessel's communications were not coming through great.

We were 30 miles offshore and there was a family with 22 kids in a 21' bay boat at the rig. Never ceases to amaze me how careless some people can be. Sure, the seas weren't too bad, but all it takes is one wake from a crew boat to swamp a boat like that.

22 kids? You sure they weren't floating in from Cuba?

Damn it! If you can get away with a double-tap anywhere, the OB should be it.

I as at 152 Thursday and there was a 32 hydrasport with 19 people, mostly children. That is a heck of a run.

Our 19' Carolina Skiff is rated for 10 people. So multiple that by two, carry the one, divide by pi... I have no idea. But I don't see why it would be illegal.

Yeah, I guess there's no reason why it couldn't carry the weight, but you may have to stand dick to a-hole the whole way out.

But do you really want more regulation and hoops to jump through to drive a boat?

Depending on who the passengers are, this may be a great thing.

In a sense, yes. I almost got ran onto the rocks in Fourchon by 2 jackasses in offshore boats last year. I have no problem showing that I'm a competent boater if they have to, as well.

I saw a good number of young kids going snapper fishing out of Cocodrie this weekend. If they can hold a rod...that's 2 extra fish.

Hmm, so you want WLF to take you out on a test drive to prove you are a competent boater? Can you imagine the fee and time you'd have to give up to accomplish this task?
