I’ve got my bay boat insured with Geico, and saw an insane premium hike this year. Went from $360ish to $574. Who’s everyone use?

I have the boat with BoatUS/Geico and the jetski is with SkiSafe. Old boat was with SkiSafe as well but BoatUS was cheaper with the new boat.

To add some perspective, that premium I listed is for $63k coverage.

Not sure what the tiers of coverage cost or what the formula is. Is horsepower factored in?

Mine is with Progressive. Lower unit went out about 4 years ago and they paid everything but the deductible, and settled my claim in 3 days. Had my boat back in 7 days. I also carry the Propulsion Plus rider which cost $30 per year but is intended to cover any mechanical failure. I pay $900 per year for full replacement of my boat.

I have the same insurance on mine, i have enough coverage to get a new one. also nice knowing they cover mechanical failure of engine and lower unit. mine is like 60-80 a month not sure exactly.

Looks like I have the wrong kind of coverage. Mine is insured for an agreed upon amount if something were to happen to it at home or while it's on the trailer. No mechanical coverage at all. Liability only. If I sink it, I just don't have a boat anymore.

My boat is at the shop waiting on an adjuster from Progressive as we speak. Apparently I hit something and need a new lower unit because Yamaha threw that shite back with the quickness and said it wouldn't be covered by my remaining 6 months of warranty.

The claim I mentioned earlier about Progressive and my lower unit was similar. I backed off the trailer at the landing in late December and it bent the prop. Had the prop straightened but did not realize the prop shaft was bent. Lower unit went out in August, which is when I made the claim with Progressive. No questions asked and they covered it under the collision coverage.

If you are insured for agreed upon value, you do have all peril coverage. Loss by sinking would be a covered peril just as a comprehensive or collision claim would be. Agreed value policies are what you want to buy and may/may not be offered by the SF's of the world so you should ask. Also, any claims on those policies directly affect your loss ratio and could get you non renewed if the claim is large enough to attract attention prior to renewal. Charter Lakes does an outstanding job with coverage and claims.

It only covers the propulsion part of your boat, ie lower unit or outdrive, not the powerhead

Charter lakes.
I picked up bad fuel last year and they paid to have injectors replaced and fuel tank cleaned. Very smooth process. Had progressive for years prior to charter lakes. Progressive’s rate increased every year with out any claims. Charter lakes was half the cost and had vanishing deductibles, which was nice for my claim.
