I had an old timer tell me a story the other day about how he stumble across one on his horse.

They are real and exist here

A guy a quarter mile up the road has pics caught with a game camera of what I can only say looked likd a small mountain lion.

Probably 100lbs ish... was killing about a goat a week for a while. He put a 100mile electric fence charger connected on top of his fence. Havent has issues since.

Was not black...or even dark in color.

Until the day he died, my pawpaw swore there were blacl panthers in the woods, and that one woulx trail him during the 50s when he was headlighting. Said he got in the habit of shooting a baby deer and leaving it...just so he wasnt on the menu.

Never seen a panther, or any larger cat. My buddy and I did get chased by something one night that was strong enough to snap 2 inch green saplings. Just heard loud cracks like muted handgun rounds and we took off running, went back the next day and it was a trail of saplings broken 3-5ft off the ground headed to right where we were standing. Couldnt find any tracks. Im not scared of much, but my big arse broke the world record in the 100m that night.

Similar thing happened to me.

I know what you mean.

Good thing I had taken that PCP earlier, or I would never have been able to run that fast for that long.

Actually, black panthers aren't a separate species. They are "regular" panthers with a "skin" condition.

I saw a very big cat close to there when I was at LSU around 99-00.

It was dark but the thing had a long tail.

A friend and I saw one in Ft. Adams 2 years ago headed home from the Hunting camp. He was sitting in the middle of the trail when we turned the corner. Lucky we were in a jeep so we were able to stop and watch him for about 30 seconds before it stood up and walked off the trail.
I would say it was 100 lbs or so, dark grey/charcoal colored with a long bushy tail.

Ok, so your pow pow was an outlaw that was scared of imaginary cats. And his idea was to leave it a trail of meat so that this scary imaginary cat would then learn to follow him around while he outlawed?

Also, you run from noises in the woods.
