Best scope for a Browning BLR

Bought a .243 off my brother in law. I have a .308. Don’t like the scope on that one, it’s an old 8pt. Just looking for the best setup for the money for this one.

I’m have a a Leupold 3-9x40 on my 7mm08 and a VX31i 3.5-10x40 on my 30-06. They are both BLR’s.

Not trying to derail the thread but I'm curious what mounts y'all are using on the BLR? I bought a 30-06 a couple of years ago and now have a new Vortex 3x9x40 for it but have not bought a rings yet. I like the DNZ 1 peice but when ordering it asks if it's long throw or short throw. How do I determine that?

Guessing they mean long or short action . The 3006 would be a long action.

A compact lever gun just looks and feels good with a 2-7x33 on it instead of a telescope.
I have a leupold 2-7 on a marlin 30-30 and it hasn’t disappointed me yet.

I have always lived by one rule that has never failed me when putting an optic on a gun. ALWAYS look to spend equal or more on the optic as you did the gun.

$200-$400 would be nice, would probably be buying two. One for my .243 and replacing the .308.
I'd like something that if I could use for a Texas hunt or out west. Considering buying land primarily for duck hunting but possibly deer in Southwest Oklahoma.
I got this one because he needed cash. The only thing I don't like about the gun, is they tend to kick quick a bit I'm guessing it is shorter barrel, and the trigger pull takes forever. You really have to squeeze it.

I hate that rule. A trijicon Huron is under $500 and is a very reliable scope. I'd have no heartburn at all sticking that on top a $3k rifle.

I have a few sub $200 scopes because I'm cheap. I think Burris makes some of the best budget scopes out there.

SWFA ultralight would be my personal choice. $350-ish. Most relaible lightweight scope in that price bracket
You could maybe get a trijicon ascent on the upper end of that budget on a holiday sale or something.
Otherwise, just a plain ol leupold vx 1 would be serviceable

I put a Weaver 1.5 x 4.5 with post and cross hair reticle on my BLR "Bob" as most of my hunting at that time was on the wet side of the Ms River levee or the Big Black River swamp. Both groups ran dogs. The post and cross hair reticle was super for fast acquisition of one's target. Really only used that set up with running dogs.
Now that 'time' was 45+/- yrs ago...so yes I'm an 'old curmudgeon/boomer'

I put a Z5 on my Browning BLR .308. But it is a White Gold Medallion shot show gun, so I wanted to spend a bit more on the glass.
Fantastic shooting gun.
Fantastic shooting gun.

They used to have Phillipine and Japanese models for what other companies sold China scopes at. Not sure if that's still the case or not.
Cabelas brand scopes can be a sweet deal. They have some Phillipines built scopes that are fair priced.
My goal with budget scopes is just do my best to avoid China

I just looked it up, the Burris Droptine 3x9x40 Rimfire (I think I paid $129 ea for the two I have) are made in the Philippines. I didn't realize they weren't made in China.

Natchez still has burris fullfield ii 3-9x40 in stock for just over $100. If you don't mind how the whole ocular bell rotates to zoom, those are well regarded cheap scopes.

Yep, the only way I would need an expensive scope is if I were long range competition shooting.
Almost everything I do is under 250 yards. There are a lot of sub $400 scopes that do just fine.

You could get a 20x SWFA for under $400 and have a very serviceable ultra long range scope.
That stance falls apart once the rifle gets past $200. Strictly from a perspective of landing bullets on target (what else do we need a scope for?) A man can do anything that needs to be done with a shoulder fired weapon for under $1000. $1500 gets you a trijicon tenmile.
Peoples priorities with scopes are generally super fricked up. Its a sight. It just needs to tell you were the bullet is going to go. Most scopes on the market do a shitty job of the one thing a scope has to do.
