That's where I picked up a pair along with some discounted Curados. Only downside is the deals are so good people like me can't turn them down and I have to buy two every time I see one of these sales.

I was able to get this $230 reel for about $100 through it.

Had shimano's...the pawl(i think thats what it is called) is made out of plastic vs. metal on a Garcia
That's just not true. All of my Curado's have metal pawls

Yeh.... my shimanos have no plastic at all.... The way I see it why pay $50-$75 on a reel that will not make it 3 years of inshore fishing or I can spend $100-$150 and have a reel for..... well i've had one of my citicas for over 10yrs now. Nothing but inshore fishing done wit it.

Ok, maybe its not the pawl..its the piece where the line goes through the piece. The piece is made of plastic(just looked, on ALL shimano low profile reels)that spools the line onto the reel by means of a worm gear. the plastic wears out where on garcia its made of metal. Take a look..here is the link:

Have used the same garcias for over 20 years both fresh and saltwater without fail. Both have their places i suppose, but again, i'll stick with quality that won't wear out vs. one that will.

It the line guide i'm talking about...

The line guide is made of composite graphite impregnated abs plastic.
Pretty tough and light stuff.

Okay yeh, I know my old citica has the plastic guide I think not sure about any of the knew ones I have right off hand. This I can tell you though..... If your using 20 yr old Garcias you have great reels. Those were great reels, basically unbreakable. But they aren't made the same now as they were then..... Not sure about the nicer models, but the 5000s, 4500s etc don't hold up that well. They are used as extras and company reels at the camp because they are not dependable.

I only use Shimano Calcutta's. I have caught bull reds, Jacks, sting rays etc on them with no problems using 8-12lb test.

The Curado has a ceramic insert on the line guide which has a much higher level of wear resistance than the stainless on the Abu Garcia.
I'm not going to down play the Abu Garcia as its a great reel especially for the money but it's not on the same level as a Shimano Curado.

I was gonna suggest that earlier but they cost so much more than the Curados everybody's suggesting (at least when you can find the Curado on sale). But I want a Revo Inshore very badly
Revo inshore is $160 all day long. That's only $15 more than a curado 200e7.
Even though I can get a killer deal on Abu Garcia stuff, I still buy shimano.

I'm not saying Shimano aren't good reels. They are. But the original post was for a good reel not an overpriced one. Why spend the extra $$$ on a Shimano? Will you catch more fish? Will you have an 'experience' while fishing with a Shimano? Kind of like buying a $150 rod. But to each his own.

A Shimano Curado 200e7 is cheaper than a Abu Garcia Revo Inshore.

Yes I agree that the Shimano Curado is by far the better reel.
