Hands down, Ambassador C3 or C4. About $80 at academy. Will last much longer than a Shimano and perform better too even it you don't clean it after saltwater fishing.

I have a number of Curados. One of them is an original 200SF, it's about 12 years old now, has been dropped overboard twice, and fished every lick of marsh from Dularge to Cat Island. Rinse with fresh water religiously and have my reel guy (Emory Belton for you Houma boys) tear it down every 3 years and it runs like a champ.

Don't be scared, Curado is the way to go.

I'm an Abu Garcia fan, but I disagree. They'll last just as long, but there's no way it outperforms a Curado IMO. And I wouldn't say they'd last "much longer" than a Shimano. Quality is roughly equal depending on the model.

Had shimano's...the pawl(i think thats what it is called) is made out of plastic vs. metal on a Garcia..won't ever own another shimano because of it. it kept wearing out from use. No reason to have a piece made out of plastic on $100 reel IMO.

My Shimanos all cost more than $100 though

But if you like round baitcasters you can't beat an Ambassadeur. Relatively cheap and pretty bulletproof reels.

I was gonna suggest that earlier but they cost so much more than the Curados everybody's suggesting (at least when you can find the Curado on sale). But I want a Revo Inshore very badly

Good reels for wade fishing big trout or catching Bull Reds on Dixey Bar. Yes they re abit pricey, but when ur in a zone catching fish, it's something less you have to worry about.

Abu Garcia revo reels and Swampland rods, redfish and trout since the revo came out with no problems.

I picked up two of these for 50% off from ALFC just a month after I got two Curado's for 40% off. I guess it's overstock they sell so cheap, but the Curado's were retired to rods for fishing in the subdivision pond and the Revo's never miss a saltwater trip.

P.S. Admins finally activated my account

Abu Garcia Revo Inshore casting reel is a really nice saltwater reel. It's expensive but if you sign up for Tom Ashby's newsletter, they send out specials every Sunday. I was able to get this $230 reel for about $100 through it.
