Best Home Protection Revolver

Its far past time for me to buy a pistol for home protection/ hogs or alligators on my property.
I know you guys get this question a lot, but I would like to know your load outs and what best suites you guys.
I already have a 2 12 gauge shotguns and one .308 rifle if that makes a difference.
TIA

ETA: S&W Model 386 in .357mag - used to have one and loved it. You wouldnt believe how accurate that little snubby is.

That is an uncomfortable biyatch to shoot
Go with a 686, 586, GP101, or a judge or something

This is also true.

Doubt you would need to fire off many shots if you're somewhat accurate.

If you want a revolver I highly rec a Ruger .357

I dont' see the point in a snub or Air Lite if it won't be conceal carried.
I say get a 357 in either 4"or 6" barrel.
Smith or Ruger.
Or, if you feel like shelling out a couple grand, The Python!

Whatever you get make sure its a full sized .357 mag with a 4 or 6" barrel.
Ruger GP100 and smith 686+ are both great. I'm partial to the ruger, but the smith 686+ is a 7 shot. It also has a stupid safety lock thing that can potentially screw up. Wouldn't worry too much about it, but smith guys put alot of stock in "pre-lock" guns.
Buy one and fill it up with good 125gr hollow points.
Don't get a Rossi.

.357 is an exceptionally loud caliber and would be even moreso in a home environment. One of your shotguns would make a better home defense gun to be honest.

THIS. If the OP has young or teen kids, I would never ever use a handgun for home protection.
Reason behind this is that a handgun round will go thru 99% of walls inside a house. If one had to use it, there would be a chance of hitting one of his kids.
Now, take a 12 ga shotgun with 00 buckshot. Sheetrock will stop it. Besides that, using a shotgun, one only has to point and shoot. Handgun, one has to aim.
Myself, I do not keep any guns in my house loaded. Reason is that I almost shot my son one night. That scared the living shite out of me. I do keep a handgun close by now that it is just the wife and I. And of course I have a speed clip loaded with it.

I'd venture to say you still won't hit shite if you don't aim with a shotgun.

I don't think sheet rock will stop 00 buck, and I wouldn't really want a round that wont go through a sheet of drywall. I just don't want something that's going to travel and be lethal tens of yards plus, after going through a wall

I agree with a few posters in here. Here are my thoughts:
1. If you get a revolver strictly for HD, you are not limited in what size you can use. A larger handgun (dimensionally, not caliber) is ALWAYS easier to shoot, i.e. a 357 snub vs. a 357 4". If you get a revolver, I agree with a Ruger GP100 or S&W 686P.
2. A shotgun still needs to be aimed. It's just that a shoulder-mounted weapon is easier to fire than a handgun. And the shot pattern is larger than a 357, where a 357 is always .357" inches wide no matter the distance.
3. If you use a shotgun for HD, do not use a hunting one. Use one with an 18" barrel to make it lighter and easier to maneuver. Or if you have an 870 or Mossberg 500/590 already, getting an 18" barrel for one of them is really cheap. You can just swap it out.
Either way, you can't go wrong. I agree with the others that say a shotgun is a bit better (an 18" that is) but if you prefer to use a revolver, there's nothing wrong with that at all.

yea, I don't either. I'd rather have a longer barrel, but shotgun FTW
