Best containers for making large blocks of ice

I'd like to get y'all's opinions on such containers. I've used some flimsy plastics before with a tip I read here - fill container with ice and add an inch or so of water every so often. This prevented the container from splitting but I'd like to "set it and forget it".
I was thinking about those aluminum foods service pans like you see on a buffet steam table. Kind of like this one on the lower left.
Looking for something I can fill once, at least a half gallon and won't worry about it splitting. What ya got?

what exactly are you trying to accomplish?
how about those disposable foil containters?
they are flexible and you could probably rip/tear them off if you needed
theyre only like a dollar too

This, I keep a case of frozen 16oz. water bottles in the deep freezer. I throw a few in every ice chest I pack, keeps thing cooler longer...

I have some Big Ice Trays, each one makes 10 lbs of ice in 4 or 6 blocks. New Orleans Company...

This, I use them to freeze soup and gumbo then run warm water on outside until it comes out of the pan then put in vacuum seal bags.

I'd like to have - for ice chests - a large blocks of ice with minimal surface area. Cake-style pans are out. Essentially I'd like 8-9" cubes.
I used some Arizona tea jugs, and they lasted for a while until one burst and I had to Thaw my chest freezer out.
I'd like a sturdy container that can be filled, placed in my freezer and not worry about it splitting.

I know the equipment to make block ice like for snowballs requires special equipment...

I'm liking the water balloon suggestion. Definitely gonna try that out.

If using water balloons, this is the way to go!

I use the larger 2-5 gallon ice cream plastic containers, never had any problems with them splitting before.

That's awesome.
What about a bare metal pot, like an old Magnalite pot? Certainly a 64-128 ounces of freezing water could break one of those, huh?

1 gallon ice cream buckets won't split. After frozen, turn upside-down and spray with water until it falls from the bucket. Use ice pick to break into whatever size you want.
