Whats OB opinion on the best Climbing stands for comfort and weight of carry? I am VERTICAL bow hunting in Ohio and West Virginia and I havent had any luck in my ground blind on the public land and want to get higher.

I have 4 different climbers I’m gonna give you my take
Treewalker promag
This is my favorite one weighs 17 lbs and packs easily. If you plan on sitting all day I would upgrade the seat.
Pros: light weight and fits trees up to 26 inches which is a major plus for me. This stand really bites into tree. Great security and balanced platform.
Cons: over 400.00

Summit viper
This my second favorite. Weighs 22 lbs this is my heaviest stand.
Pros: extremely comfortable (I usually put this one where I’m gonna hunt all day. Reasonably priced.
Cons: kinda noisy climbing

Lone wolf sit and climb
Pros: packs well and light weight great for long walks
Cons: due to the design when you set up the stand on the tree for it to taper down to the size as you climb. The back bar hits the tree not allowing you to taper the stand for the tree. So what happens when you climb the tree to the desired height your can adjust the top to be level but the bottom will be slightly looking down. Unless you wanna adjust that in the dark in a morning hunt. NOT ME! Very pricey.

API grand slam
Pros: packs easily and light weight. Very quiet climbing the tree. Reasonably priced.
Cons: the chain will rust! So be careful! This is like a bicycle chain.

Ive only used two, here are my pros and cons...

Summit viper
Pros: super comfortable
Cons: doesn't pack up as compact as my other

Ol Man alumilite
Pros: very comfortable, packs out veey compact, bites better than the summit
Cons: stupid pins for the tree staps

Fighting a problem with my straps and pins where when I'm going up on of my pins on the foot floor pops every time it bites.

To answer OP, I have a Summit Viper and would recommend it. Its not the lightest climber out there, but its light enough and comfortable to sit in. Easy to get setup and pack up. Added the saddle bags from Summit to carry gear in and a bow holder that attaches to the climber

Yes. During the season, over time the coating over the chain will crack and moisture will get in causing corrosion. I read some stories about the chain breaking when I noticed rust on my api. I replaced the chains. I guess if you take it out every day you may not have that problem.

The tree walker also uses pins but I love their system. Also I recommend moelle straps for all of your climbers. I can promise you that the ergonomics of the straps make any stand easy to pack.

Never seen a tree Walker, but looks like their pins are coated in a finish that wouldn't allow it to "pop". As where on the ol' man, what I'm hearing is metal to metal.

I think my tree strap must be twisted, therefore sometimes I play hell getting the holes lined up. And this is causing the pop when climbing. It's not a loud pop, but it's there

Tree Walker. I love that thing and don't feel beated and bruised when hiking 1000 yards in the woods with all my shite. I think it's 18 lbs-ish. I can also sit in it all day and feel comfortable. And more importantly safety, I feel like the bolts that attach to the tree will allow me to climb a lubricated metal pole if needed.

Steal climbers on hardwood trees
Alum or steal on softwood trees with thick bark

Tree Walker
Would love to demo one. These are the only stands that have tempted me any at all. But then again, my API design isn't made any more, and I am not sure I would like the newer ones as much.

The pins are coated. The stand is super easy to set up with the hose that wraps around the tree. It’s equivalent to having an extra hand. The eye on the cable is bright yellow and easy to line up in the dark.
