This will probably get buried with sarcastic comments but here goes.

Best base layer bang for the buck. Need it for outdoors and snow sports.

Edit: Bought this jacket online (and pants) for $77/each (retail $199) but it's a little thin for my liking.

Merino wool anything. It's worth every penny.

I have some Minus 33 stuff that's good. Don't care for my icebreaker undies though.

Got a few smart wool tee shirts. Expensive but good.

i'm really thinking about downsizing and getting some good baselayer. But I like my big thick coat with pockets and such because I usually walk in for my hunts

All you need is under armor cold gear base, shirt and pants, waders/bibs and light jacket. Should never need more than that in louisiana

I love underarmour but it is a bit pricey.

Bang for your buck, probably just good old fashioned long johns.

Under Armour is the tits, I use the 3.0 here in Pennsylvania, you could probably get the 1.0 and be good in Louisiana

No way.. If you are having to do any setting up or walking, you need something to wick away sweat as a base layer. Otherwise, you will be cold by 8:30am. I am a firm believer of UA, after years of freezing my sweaty arse off in the stand

Keep an eye out on SteepandCheap.com for deals on Backcountry's Stoic line of merino wool.

I purchased a couple of the Stoic 150 shirts and they have been a good investment.

Any poly pro is good enough for down here, unless you go old school and buy a union suit. That flap doesn't cooperate in the woods after an all-night poker game at the camp.

I get this Paradox Merino blend from Costco. About half the price more familiar brands and as good, or better.

Yeah at this latitude, Poly Pro is awesome. Keeps you dry, not bulky, and it's cheap.

I'm sure the new stuff is better but why would you need it down here? It's not that damn cold.

Don't you mean shell layer?

Best base is some type of synthetic thermals (top and bottom).

Patagonia is the absolute best. WGAF how much it costs? You have to figure out the weight you need, because expedition will likely cook your arse. It'll retain 90+% of its warm retaining capabilities when wet and that's what makes it priceless. It's saved my life before.

I would think 2 would be enough for most conditions, unless you're ice climbing or something. When I look at it Under Armour probably costs more, and nothing even comes close to this Capilene.
