I am going to be fishing a location where bait shops are a bit of a scarcity. What type of bait would y'all recommend to use to catch cocahoe minnows in a minnow trap?

My dad's friend always ordered extra fries from McDonald's on the way down to the camp. He would put the extra fries in the minnow trap that evening. Next morning that trap was always slap full.

the location of the traps is probably more important than the bait, we catch them on just plain bread

I was going to try to target the shallower ditches 1ft of less in the marshes around the grass beds. low current. Would this be a good place to start. Fortunately I only need around 2 dozen and I have 36 hours to catch them. ??

Get a live blue crab and break it up into small pieces. 1 medium size crab can bait 6 traps. Also, ball up some slices bread tight let them dry out drop them in the trap too.

Natural bait like crabs or shrimp. Any other bait is better if it has oil in it. Dog food, tuna fish in oil, hot dogs, bacon. Those little buggers are like piranha. If they grew to be 5 pounds it would not be safe to get in the water.

Yeah that sounds good
There’s a pond in grand isle that people throw fish heads in, it’s always stacked with minnows

Probably doesn’t help you right now, but duck guts work great and last. It’s what I use during duck season.

When I was a kid 100 years ago, we used to catch them at the Rigolets train trestle. You could throw a turd in the trap and they'd eat it.
