Depends on what you get man. My 2011 cost me 36k after TTL. It's a 2wd Crew Cab Sport with the 32gal. tank, 3.55 rear gear, premium sport group (leather trimmed seats, center console shifter, etc.), remote start, 20" Rims, 500w 9 speaker Alpine stereo, and some other stuff I'm sure I've forgotten. But I know you can get a smaller Quad Cab for cheaper in Big Horn trim.

Right now, I'm sure you could get a well equipped 4x4 Ram off the lot for 30k fairly easily. May not have navigation or any fancy things...but just what you would need in a truck, plus the hemi.

You really can't go wrong with any truck from the Big 3 right now though. Like I said, I'd go drive them all and just see which one you like best.

ETA: Here's a pic of my new ride just for inspiration

very pretty truck. I'm not looking for an awe factor since I'll be taking it in the woods and through all kinds of stuff.

my plan is to wait til the end of the year when the 11's are marked down to move, but if I'm given a good deal before then I'll jump on it

if any of you can get steauxn in here to chime in, I'd appreciate it. id like to see what kind of figures he could throw at me

That was my plan too. Started shopping late December but by then all of the 2010 Sports were sold...so I opted for the 2011. Moral of the story, start your search the second dealers start offering the year end rebates/incentives lol.

Don't remember if you said you needed 4 doors or not, but Dodge is also offering two new trim levels in reg cab called "Tradesman" and "Express". The Tradesman starts at around 20k and is basically a stripped out truck but still has the Hemi and an optional 3.92 gear. The Express is just a stripped out Sport model...starts around 22k and comes with color matched bumpers, 20" rims, and the hemi, and whatever else you add. Two very good deals...but only if you can get by with two doors.

Jordan has the right idea. If you wait much longer I would not consider ford. The pickins are very slim right now due to certain things that will not be offered in 2012 due to the tsunami. I had to get a truck with more options than I wanted bevause on it. After seeing Jordans truck I am second guessing my F150. Well not really but it was worth saying.

Also not that it matters but... GM is at the bottom big 3 as far as power goes. May not be huge to you but just throwing it out there.

Disclaimer for GM fan boys: the 6.2 vortec is not the standard motor and is a speciality item where the Hemi, Ecoboost, and ford 6.2 are standard
.

Actually, Ford offers the 5.0 standard in the trucks now and the Ecoboost and 6.2 as upgrades...though the 5.0 is still smaller than the Vortec 5.3, but much, much, much more powerful. The 5.0 is a badass motor. I think GM is going to update their engine lineup in the coming years...they pretty much have no other choice. The 5.3 is getting too antiquated.

Thanks for the compliments though, I'm loving the truck. Actually about to make the trip to FL from Houma tomorrow in it

There's a reason the F-150 has been the best selling truck in America for over 20 years straight.

I considered Ford, Chevy/GMC, and Toyota Tundra when I bought. I just liked the Toyota the best. It's a crew cab and the back is huge. Plus I liked the motor in the Toyota better and they were willing to deal with me at the time. Chevy would only come off about $1500, Ford about $6k and Toyota came off $10k.

Good point Jordan but my logic was that there are more Ecoboost and 6.2s on the road than 5.0s. Actually, ecoboost outsold all gas V8s by ford. (if I remember correctly) Also the 6.2 is standard in the Limited and Harley Davidson and optional in the platinum (mine).

I have only drove the 5.3 in a lifted Z71 so my impressions were skewed but still couldn't find it in myself to even test drive one. The 3.42 rear end doesn't help at all either.

Good luck with the new truck! Today made 7 days that I've owned mine and I am already about to roll over 1K

Out of curiosity, why did you go with the 3.55 over the 3.92? Do you do a lot of hwy driving?

That's the truth. Dodge will come down about 10k also. I did not consider Toyota due to their weak rear frames but in reality, it's not a large problem.

It is still a badass motor. I know a guy who just turned 313xxx on his without a single engine issue. It may not be the most powerful, but I would certainly chalk it up as the most reliable.

I actually realllllllllly wanted a 3.92 rear gear. I used to race my old truck at the 1/4 mile and had 4.56s in it, so I appreciate the extra "umph", but they didn't have ANY sport models within my price range equipped with the 3.92. It sucks because on the previous generation Rams, 3.92 was standard on the Sport models. It's not terrible, just no balls on the low end, lol.

Oh I agree 100%. It is a great motor, I just think it's been around, virtually unchanged, too long and with increasing fuel and emission standards, GM is going to have to do something soon. The LS platform is probably one of the best there is, such a massive aftermarket and the parts are relatively cheap...can't really go wrong. Same can be said for them all, Ford is making some great engines and Dodge's Hemi and even the 4.7 V8 are great motors.

From everything I've heard, the best 1/2 ton 4x4 out there is th Titan. Especially in towing

Actually Chevy will probably just upgrade the 5.3 to get better performance. And as far as Fords 5.0, the numbers are miss leading. The horse power they quote is at 5,500 RPM, damn near red lining. And the Torque is around4,200 RPM. Also it has worst gas mileage than the 5.3 and tows less.

Titan is a great truck no doubt. If I were interested in something besides the big 3, it woula been my first pick.

I believe that everyone that I know personally, not online truck forums, has said that they are getting better mpg than the 5.3. Numbers wise, I believe that the 5.0 tows better as well. Again though, the 5.0 is the weakest engine produced by ford for a crew cab truck. Not bad at all.

If chevy and gmc would be willing to put different rear ends into their trucks along with an additional 50-70 hp, they would be back at the top of the pack. The next 3-4 years will be important to see what they do.

Our four-wheel-drive 5.0 was rated 14/19 mpg city/highway. These days, we’d expect fuel economy to be higher, especially in a small-displacement eight-cylinder. It should have at least tied the 15/21 mpg rating of the 5.3-liter V-8 in the Chevy Silverado 1500

Also the 5.0 is the mid range motor, the weakest is the 3.5. And yes it has less towing capacity than the Chevy.

You are misinformed. The 3.5 twin turbo is one of the best towing motors available. When matched with the max towing package(stiffer leaf springs and class IV hitch) it will tow over 11,000 lbs. I would not want to see that behind a 5.3.

It is obvious that you are a Chevy boy and that's fine but don't state your opinion when facts prove it wrong.
