Dude it was just plain crazy.......I shot that Diamondback when I was at LSU in a PE course they had ...Pistol Marksmenship. A lady who's family owned a Sporting Goods store up there ran the class I believe her name was Norcrauer (sp).

The final we got to shoot the State Police range for scores at 7 yards, 25 yards and another distance.

I shot 298 out of 300 with the gun.

.38 Special

The one in the pic is a .22 I believe

Why is this again?

Revolvers aren't finicky, but for a mass produced product - Ruger is overengineered - I like a lot of things about Smith and some Colt revolvers, however, for the durability factor, Ruger has a significant edge.

And by Sig pistols, I mean the standard design, all metal guns - I would have fewer concerns about using/relying on handloads/reloads. But, maybe that's just me.

I'm happy with my Smith model 19.....

I've owned it almost 30 years. No problems.

Not a .357 but since we are discussing Colts this is the one I have in a 22.

The current production Colt Single Action Army is offered in .357 with barrel lengths of 4 3/4", 5 1/2", and 7 1/2". Finish choices are blue / casehardened and nickel with hard rubber stocks standard.

To me, the SAA needs to be in a big bore caliber to appreciate its balance and history. Many people like it in .357 though...

ETA: Nice to see some Diamondbacks show up in this thread.

If I got a SAA, I would go 45 Colt.

Can you shoot the hotter 45 Colt out of the new ones?

No - standard loads only. The main limiting factor is the cylinder wall thickness, which really has not changed since the SAA was first released 140 years ago. That being said, a 250gr slug trundling along at 850fps still packs a punch.

Hot .45 loads should be confined to large frame Rugers, certain Freedom Arms, and the T/C Contender.

ETA: There was a saying among the old timers: 'The .45 Colt is never a mistake.'

As in the badass loads that run close to .44 mag?

No way Jose.

No way I'd shoot anything other than smokeless cowboy loads out of that thing.

S&W is by far the superior ones, but if like me and on a budget than taurus is a nice generic substitute.

I own 2 one with a 2' barrel and another with a 4" barrel and I love them both.

That's where I'm probably different - I would probably get a Blackhawk in .44 magnum.

Now, if and when I'm rolling in OT money - that whole Freedom Arms setup that can fire .454 Casull, .45 LC and .45 ACP with cylinder swaps - I could be convinced to do that.
