My sister in law wants to get my brother a new rifle for Xmas. I recommended she get a .308. I uses mine for just about everything. Anyone have a recommendation or deal they've seen recently?

Savage Axis II XP

I got my son this as his first deer rifle and we've been very happy. Put a little better scope on it, and you've got a really nice little deer rifle.

Just picked up a Savage Axis 308 for the girl. Great little tack driver for the price. Just put a higher quality optic on it and enjoy.

I have a Savage Axis in .308 and would recommend. The Bushnell scope that came with it has been fine for me, but longest shot I've taken with it was 100 yards at the range.

I'm not gonna lie, I haven't seen a Mossberg Patriot before, but that's a nice looking rifle.

Brother has a mossberg that’s a tackdriver. He’s killed a shite pile of deer with it.

Remington 700 ADL for <$400 is an absolute steal.

I know they get all the hate here, but it’s a better rifle than the others in that price range.

That said, any of those combo deals will shoot good enough and kill deer plenty dead enough.
