My dad had a hive in Lincoln Parish when we were kids, man that honey comb with fresh honey in it right out of the box was awesome.

Having to register your bee hives is the definition of intrusive, unnecessary, bureaucratic, burdensome, shameful government overreach.
When are we gonna wake up and demand government start rolling back some of this nonsense?

Is it law to register them? We had 40 hives at one point in St. Tammany.

The purpose of Apiary Programs is to prevent the introduction and spread of infectious diseases and pests of honey bees. This is accomplished through hive registration, surveys, inspections, sampling, and control of pests of honey bees.

I knew that because I got sucked into watching Jeff Horchoff from St. Joseph's Abbey on Youtube. There are WAY too many friends and such that he trades with, gets bees from, etc., for it not to be St. Tammany.

I'm sure you think you should be able to bring in whatever plants or animals you would like, right? And buy and apply any pesticide you would like with no licensing or registration requirements?
There are reasons for these regulations. If someone brings in one hive with some new, devastating disease or parasite, it could wipe out the entire beekeeping industry in the state. They are already dealing with colony collapse.
Anyway, East Baton Rouge being second kind of surprises me, but then again it doesn't for some reason. EBR isn't exactly known for agriculture, but I guess it makes sense that there would be a bunch of beekeepers since it doesn't require much acreage.
Those beekeepers love their damn chicken trees too. God forbid anyone kill a chicken tree.

No.
I think there should be limits on invasive species. European honey bees exist on every continent on eart except Antarctica. They've been here in North America since the early 1600s.
Having to register your bee hives with the government is an unreasonable burden. I'm comfortable with my position.

Those innocent little creatures have a huge effect on agriculture - probably more than most people realize. For the most part, they're out of our awareness, but they're out there doing their thing - even when we're not watching.
