Guys that have the larger bay boats is extra few feet worth the extra cost? (will not be a new boat)

Will be for coastal trout fishing and may a little snapper on the calm days.

I already have a 17' aluminum hull and plan to keep it.

For snapper a 22 vs a 25 boat is a huge difference in the offshore world. For just trout its not really worth the extra $40k to go to a 25' for a average weekend warrior who stays inshore 99% of days but bigger = better in the boat world, right?. 24' is a very good compromise i believe and its why they are so popular but again the price reflects that

My 22 does very well around the coast and will get it done for snapper on the calmest of days. Its just smart to go as big as possible if you plan on going offshore frequently.

For what those 25+ boats cost I would be shopping for a used center console with twins. You can get a 34-36 in good shape for what those bay boats cost.

9 out of 10 if you get a 22 you'll always want 24 and if you get the 24 you prob won't say you wish you got the 22. neither are worth much in 3 to 4 chop.

I have a 22’ and am very happy with it. I fish 99% of the time in the marsh. Occasionally I’ll venture out to black bay on calm days. The only time I wished I had a 24’ I was in black bay and had no business fishing that day at all bc they had 2-3 foot waves. I doubt a 24’ would’ve made much difference anyway.

If I had the money I would’ve done a 24’ but I bought new and saving 12-15k and having a 22’ was a good compromise. Like I said though, I’m pretty happy with my decision

If you can swing it I would go bigger even if you never plan to hit the snapper.

The Tideline 235 is perfect for this and sexy as hell, but it won't be light on the wallet.

One day......one day....

2’ is yuge when going up or down in boat length. Lot of solid choices in both lengths but zero downside in a longer boat. Keep your powder dry and be proactive when your dream boat comes up because some else is doing the same thing. What’s your budget, location & wants?

The only time it's really going to matter is the 1-2s with occasional 3s days. Bigger than that and they both will suck. Smaller than that and they both do great.

There are plenty of guides working out of a 22 ft boat.

I don't understand the 24 plus boats. They aren't good for inshore fishing unless you are fishing large deep flats. You simply can't have everything in a boat.

nothing is good in a 3-4 foot chop. ground swells with a 6 second interval is different than an actual 3-4 foot chop. I hated going offshore in the 28 mako in 3-4's

Yeah that needs a repower, unless you are talking CV 270z, etc

Imo if you plan to fish 3 and 4 people every trip go with a 24 to 26

Most likely will end up with a 24. Just waiting to find the right deal. The used marked on them is starting to have a few options.

Cant afford a new 27 cv unless I win the lottery but it would be nice.

Shop in Florida. You can get one for 5 figures in very good shape and a few years away from repower

I'd have no qualms buying whatever best deal comes up. If you fish by yourself or with one other person mostly, I'd have no issue buying a 22 either. If you have say 3 sons that you fish with a lot, sure a 24 will be best. But again plenty of guides use 22 foot boats.

I think its a bigger jump from a 19 to a 22, then a 22 to 24. One foot obviously lol, but sure a 24 h handles better but again its not an offshore boat.

still not an offshore boat

I dont think people understand this well enough. You can get a 30' boat and if it has no deadrise at the stern and drafts 8" it's still going to kill you in the gulf. Conversely you can get a 24' cat that is great offshore. Length ain't everything (I've got lots of practice preaching this point). So dont spring for a 26' bay boat thinking you'll have a do it all any day rig. Buy it if you want a 26' bay boat.

I've been looking for that in a 31' and can barely find one in the 120 range that's not a project boat. (top makes)

Guides working out if 22’ boats are miserable and waiting for enough credik to move up to a 24’ + Boat. Put 3 fatasses in a 22’ and you will be miserable and bleeding.

I had 22 now have a 24. Without a doubt 24 is way to go. That 2 feet is a huge difference in ride, space, and fish ability

I know a guy who bought a good name one bigger than that for 95k and ran 4 years hard before repowering

Keep shopping. Took him over a year but he got a high end boat. Florida/east coast. You're gonna have to drive

I've fished specs with 4 college football players out of a 17' several times. Yall have some crazy expectations for fishing. It definitely does not take 24 feet of boat to be comfortable with 5 people who have the slightest clue how to fish.
