The problem is you can't get a basic wood core rolled gunnel boat anymore as far as I know. They all cut corners elsewhere to be able to say "wood free construction."

The used market is totally insane right now as well.

Yeah it seems that Haynie is about the only one building a wood cored rolled gunnel boat and it ain’t exactly cheap. The cool thing is that no one would ever buy a 20 year old used boat 20 years ago, the way they build these boats now, the hulls will last forever.

Used 224's can be found in solid condition for half you budget. Invest in some green new deal tech and use dividends to repower in a couple years to the new solar/wind outboard.
If you go used, REWIRE since both PF & BJ have shite wiring.

Some real good input here.

I need to add some of these brands to my list. Frontier looks like a nice boat and priced right. Hadn’t thought about the Sportsman.

The blackjack is something a buddy recommended to me since I am a fan of Kenner. He said they’re made by the same people that made Kenner. I only briefly reviewed them and didn’t even pay attention to the fact that they’re over 21’. The 224 looks like it could maybe work but I’d have to get a good deal. They look friggin awesome though.

I’m hesitant about the used boat route. I have not had a lot of luck with used boats in my past. I bought other people’s problems. I’d have to get a mechanic to check it out. Prices are indeed elevated.

I have a guy over in gulf shores at power sports place who wants me to make a trip over there to see their deals but that’s a long way to go. I hate trailering that far.

If a used one looks good in AL or FL, just pay a boat surveyor to run through a check list and report back to you for $100 or $150.

Im not sure if LA closed the tax loophole on used boats yet.

I've done refits on boats and will not do it again. You upgrade one thing and then one more, then..more.

You should buy the used kenner 23v that's for sale in BR right now. Its loaded out to the max and its damn hard to buy a better coastal use hull than that.

That link above me is it.

I've fished that boat a whole lot. I can tell you the rigging is top notch and its been very well cared for. Fantastic buy and I'm really kinda pissed off that I bought my boat last year for not a whole lot less than that and not nearly as well equipped.

No disrespect to the Kenner that is listed but that boat is for some people but doesn’t fit the bill for many. For example I prefer a solid rear deck on my boat.

To the OP. What are you looking for mostly in the next boat? Speed, draft, fuel efficiency, rough water capability, large console, minimal console? Do you want a fish inside of type of boat with high gun whales and a lot of freeboard or fish on top of type of boat with lower gun whales and less freeboard.

I currently run a Bluewave Purebay. It’s been an awesome boat but there are some different things I will look for on my next boat. I have been lightly shopping for my next rig. For example I want a large console with a side or forward door to access the inside of center console.

Look at the Avid 23FS. Well built, lightweight, shallow draft and quick. Perfect for what you’re describing and well inside your price range. They also have a Mag series that has a higher gunnel than the bay series.

Tell lister that he needs to list motor as an opti max not pro xs. Great example of an early Kenner for sure that has had some money poured into it. Even if you repower, you're in a great boat for less than a new 21'.

Interesting. Never heard of this company.
Aluminium and made in Mississippi. Sold here in Slidell.

Prices are decent.

Not sure if there’s any drawback to aluminium. I would think there’d be advantages over fiberglass but I don’t really know.

When you're making your way over a bumpy Lake Borgne the fiberglass boat will be much more comfortable.

I really like the corner box layout. I find it works great, especially if fishing coastal. With an ipilot you can get up current and fish off the floor rather than out the or trying to not fall in off the back. Corner boxes are plenty big enough to fish off of.

Good questions and I sort of flounder between what I want vs what I can have.
I’m fortunate enough to be able to afford a substantial upgrade but I have limited dock and water depth.
I could put it in a marina which has me thinking 22-24 foot which is what I really want. I just don’t want to store it in a marina.

In general, I want a true bay boat.
I am in lake borgne and ponchartrain a lot so that means some chop. I’d like to go over to bay St. Louis so I need fuel storage.
I want speed and good fuel consumption.

I want elevations to fish from.
Good rod holders.
I want locked rod storage .
I want so comfort features like built in seats astern.
I want to have easy access to wires, and bilge.
I like storage.

You’re looking for a turner, Transport 24 xlr8, 25 Mag, 25 majek, 256 BJ, 24 billfish, 24 Morada. I am good at spending others money

We are looking for similar boats then. I am just torn on wether I want to go up to 24 or stay at 22. I am leaning at stepping up to the 24 footers. The boss at home would really like the ability to add a portapotty even though I know it won’t be used much. So a big center console with good access to the components is a must for me.

I have made the following notes on the narrowed list due to them all having necessary features that I want. Still need to do more research though.

Ranger 2360 - has everything I want and well thought out in just about every aspect. just pricey. Center console opens forward instead of the side or Rear. Very heavy boat.

Robalo 246 Cayman - superb layout. Have heard they have wood in the construction so not sure about this one. Very heavy with forward opening center console.

Sportsman 247 - strong contender for best combination of fit, finish, features, and price. Balanced weight. Side console door.

Sea Hunt 25 BR - loaded with features, very heavy and deep bay boat. Solid manufacturer. Side open center console.

Key West 230 Bay Reef. Solid all around maybe not as fancy of fit and finish but rock solid boats from what I can tell. Value price. Side console door. Balanced weight.

Sea Pro 248 - manufacturer is a recent return to the market. loads of features, balanced weight. Good value price point. Side open center console.

I had Tidewater on my list but there is quite a bit of negative stuff out there online about the company and their quality so I decided to remove them. You can do your own research.

I was looking at avid recently and thought the center console looked like my nautic star. Pretty sure, the same folks who owned nautic star and sold to master craft, built a factory and started avid in the same town as nautic star.
