I saw a short vid with a jet stove type deal in a frozen water trough with a bunch of rocks on it.

Do you have a well to fill it? If so, run the well. It’ll keep it thawed enough

I’m a catfish farmer so trust me on this.

Nope. In extreme cold it will cause the water droplets being thrown in the air to freeze and pile ice on top of aerator. It’ll frick it all up

Run well water into the pond

If the pond is sufficiently deep, more the 4-5' deep, it will not be a problem.

The only way I'd really be concerned is if the pond froze over for an extended period.

What happens is if pond is frozen for 3-4 days on the surface CO2 and other gases cannot escape into the air and it poisons the fish. Don’t have to keep whole pond thawed, just a small area

Just run electrical wires through it in a grid pattern. That'll warm it up. Kinda like Lambeau Field has to keep it from freezing.

Buy one of those jet engines Nascar uses to dry tracks after a rain. And let it blow across the pond for 3 days.
It'll save em...but it'll cost 200k in fuel

They will be fine. Our pond freezes every year, so much so that we ice skate on it. It is 20’ at the deepest point but much of it is 4-5’. We have bass, catfish and bream.

If you do the jambalaya method, please film it. I’m sure you would become a YouTube sensation.

seems to me that would make the water colder.

He should build a power plant next to the pond. Generate energy, warm up pond.

Win/win

I'm imaging the old boy walking back and forth all night in knee deep water.

Because either there'd be no ice near the pot or it wouldn't stay frozen where he's walking. Someone needs to game cam him for posterity sake.

You would not like the end result. They ruin everything with their spawn and no biologist will recommend them. I have minnows, bream and bass only. I don’t want catfish either. I’m growing my bass and am harvesting a good bit of 10” fish over last 2 years and since this last spring have caught and released 8 fish over 6 pounds with one over 8 and quite a few in the 3-5 lb range.

Stocking crappie is not recommended for any pond less than 20 acres in size. It is very difficult to manage their numbers because they are prolific breeders. “They are tough to manage even in ponds at the low end of that limit because predators and anglers can’t keep up with crappie spawns, he said. Eventually the ponds are overrun,” he said. An angler might get 3-8 years of good crappie fishing, but every few years the water temperature, water level and moon phase all line up just right to get a phenomenal crappie spawn. When this happens, largemouth bass in the pond cannot remove enough small crappie from the pond to limit the population. That means more crappie survive, and the next couple of years there are even more crappie spawning, he said. Then it snowballs out of hand. Eventually there are so many small crappie in the pond, that no fish, including juvenile bluegill, bass and catfish, can get enough food to effectively grow. “Then the entire population starts to stunt,” Sink said. “After a few years, all the large fish in the pond will have died off or have been harvested, and the remaining fish in the pond are all stunted at a size too small for sport or food harvest. When a pond gets to this point, the most effective strategy is to start over again.” -30-

Well I’ve seen plenty ponds reduced to nothing when owners introduced sac a lait .

But whatever. I tend to listen to guys that do it for a living and it works for me.
