Anybody used it on whitetail?

Good reviews, bad reviews?

My dad has been hunting deer his entire life and has not been more impressed with ammo than he has with Barnes. He loads Barnes TTSX himself but it’s the same bullet used in those factory rounds. Weight retention is good with an all-copper bullet and it being longer means it engages the rifling for a longer duration. That may or may not play a factor in accuracy but I just know they are very accurate and effective on game.

Out of my .35 Whelen I didn't care for them. Almost no blood trail. I'm betting because it is such a weight retention/deep penetrating round that out of a .35 Whelen is probably better suited for Elk. They just seemed to punch a hole in the few deer I shot with them.

I bet they would be awesome in smaller rounds like the .243/7-08 etc.

I shoot the barnes for-tx in my .308 in the 168gr. Mighty impressed with the consistent terminal performance. My gun loves this round which I think is the most important thing to consider. I have the utmost confidence in this bullet doing the job. Have shot multiple 3 round groups at 100yds that left 1 hole on the paper. If your gun likes them they are as good as it gets.

I handload and barnes is all I use.

110gr TTSX in my 270wsm is devastating. I clocked them at over 3500 fps. They do the job.

I bought a box of the 70 grain 5.56 to use on white tail this year. Curious as to what happens to the all copper bullet as far as whether it will break up or just mushroom back and go clear through like a slug. Either way, after my research I found nothing but great reviews from on here and other websites. Will report back with results, hopefully soon

It has been known to be quite an effective bullet overseas. Look up "Barnes brown tip".

I shot almost all the way through a small buck with those. Hard facing me when I shot, near shoulder blade was clipped, three ribs busted, recovered in the back of the ham.

Both in my experience.

Velocity has to be very high for the petals to shed. I've had cases where the TSX acted like a fmj and just went through them like they weren't there. No blood or hair or anything.

Shoot the TTSX in as small a bullet as you can. It mushrooms with 99% weight retention. Lead bull8break up but this will go through a deer from front to back no problem. Itd one of the top 5 hunting bullets and you can eat right up to it.

All I will use in my .308 now, love them. I’m shooting the 150gr and have been for 5ish years.

Funny you should say this. My deer hunting buddy and I were talking about this same topic yesterday. After 50 years of deer hunting, he now exclusively handholds the Barnes TTSX (the same bullet that's in VOR-TX ammo) in all his deer hunting loads, 52 gr 223, 130 gr 270 and 150 gr 308. He showed me a 308 bullet yesterday he recovered from a decent sized 6 point buck shot at 160 yards. The deer was facing him at a slight angle. The bullet penetrated all the way from the slightly off center front chest to the opposite ham where he found it. He hasn't weighed it yet, but it looked like >75% weight retention. It looked like a pic from Barnes. He shot a 6 point elk a few mos ago w/ the 270 bullet. It was a high lung shot at 200 yards and left a nice exit wound. As far as my personal experience, I shot a doe last year at 120 yards w/ a 120 gr Barnes TTSX at muzzle velocity of 2900 fps in a 284 Win handgun. There was a large entrance and exit wound. The deer only ran 40 yards and left a good blood trail. I think the bullet penetrates and expands well at high velocity, but I'm not sure yet if it does as well at lower velocity. I'll know more once I kill a deer w/ the 120 gr in my 7-08 handgun. OTOH, there are many conventional bullets that also kill deer very well.
