Bank fishing Clear Lake/Galveston area

I just moved to Clear Lake, Tx from Baton Rouge and looking for a place to go fishing this weekend. My boats still in BR so it'll have to be bank/wade fishing. I see water all around me but it looks like a lot of it is on nature reserves. I tried Texas City Dike last weekend and didnt have any luck. I've seen mud lake mentioned online as well. Can anyone point me in the direction of where to start?

Drive over to Winnie and then South to Crystal Beach. Then find the Boliver Pocket. It’s the protected surf behind the jetties. You can set up to bank fish or just wade it. I have murdered the trout in there in July and August. Just beware of sharks and wear Ray Guards if you wade. They are thick.
You can also get there via Galveston. You just have to cross the ferry.

Do a google map search for Surfside beach, when the water is ok in the surf you can catch good trout.
We used to wade the bay across the road but I'm not sure where the public access is anymore, there's a bait shop right across the san Louis pass bridge
If you can find a place to get in the water, get a popping cork and a pint of live shrimp, we always used a #10 (tiny) treble hook.
You can catch all kinds of stuff in the bay, trout/reds/flounder sheep head etc etc
Check your regs, the reds slot used to be 20" - 28" I think It's been a while since I went
San Louis Pass also has a pier which is cool at night

When you fished Texas City Dike, did you happen to drive north all he way to the Moses Lake Flood gate? If you park at the gate, you can walk down the hill to the south and fish from the bank into Moses lake. There are some big rocks at the end of that peninsula where I've caught some reds and specs.

Here's another option, the Surfside Jetty.
It's rough with rocks but there's a lot of fish to be caught

Interesting place. Full of new camps, all of them are beautiful. It's definitely out in the middle of nowhere though.
Tons of people fish the pass cutting through the peninsula, I have no idea what they are targeting though.

Saltwater for this weekend. But I definitely plan to get into some freshwater here soon.

bolivar peninsula/crystal beach. take a right just before you get to the ferry landing going to galveston, or left if coming from there obviously. I don't know the name of the road, but i think there's a little store on the opposite side of the road.
drive along till you see water on either side and a little bridge. get out there and thank me when your cooler is full.
right now you can catch specs, juvenile reds and flounder all day long.
I think me and MWP might be thinking of the same spot.

In that case, there are lots of parks in the Friendswood area that will give you access to Clear Creek and its tributaries.
I used to enjoy spending a few hours under a bridge in a small creek, Magnolia Creek I believe, catching sunfish and the occasional bass. Bass won't be lunkers or anything, but still makes for a fun trip. I parked either at Countryside Park or in the cul-de-sac of a neighborhood to get to the spot under Bay Area Blvd.
I've forgotten where my other little fishing spot was.
As for saltwater, lots of good advice already given in this thread. The area by the Moses Lake gate as mentioned was always crowded, though I never fished there. You can wade in areas around Sportsman Rd on Galveston. Cross San Luis Pass and fish either the surf or Christmas Bay down by that boat launch.

Sadly the San Luis pass pier is no longer...Thanks Ike..frickER! That was a hell of a pier, so sad that they are not going to rebuild it.
The Galveston Pier with the restaurant on it is decent as is the Sea Wolf Park pier.
Texas City dike is great too, if you wade fish there is a good spot on the left just as you get on the dike. Be careful and wear a PFD, the current is wicked when the barges go passed.

East on the seawall to Bolivar and East Bay, or west towards San Luis Pass and Christmas bay.
IMO, the bay side is more accessible just west of San Luis Pass for wade fishing, if the surf conditions aren't working for you. I've had better luck in Christmas Bay than West Bay, but have caught fish in both. you can also drive on the beach once you are west of San Luis pass. It's really easy to drive on the beach and surf fish for a while, then pack up and drive across the street to wade in the Bay. All very easy to get to.
There are lots of camps on the Bay side of Bolivar, so you kind of have to know where you are going if you want to fish the bay side over there.
Do NOT wade at San Luis Pass. Every year we have 2-3 drownings there due to rip currents.

Usually reds flounder and specs can all be caught there. That's roll over pass. Supposed to be closed soon.

No, MWP is talking about the Bolivar pocket which is on the gulf side of the road.
You probably should have sent the OP a PM to tell him about your spot. You may be held liable for collapsing that bridge if enough Houston people pick up on your post.....lol.
OP, the Surfside jetty is a good spot, but pretty crowded on weekends. The post called it "rocky", which it is, but there is a flat sidewalk on top of the rocks that will make for easy walking and using a wagon for gear.
My favorite way to fish it is to go light at first light. A couple of spoons and maybe a Vudu Shrimp or two. Cast as you walk and get the hell out once the heat gets too bad. If you want to keep some fish, put a little ice in a soft side cooler that has a shoulder strap.
Spanish macs and trout should be in there right now. Use a short wire leader above your spoon for the macs.

The Boliver Pocket and San Luis are 2 completely different spots. The Boliver Pocket is actually the surf. It’s on the Crystal Beach side before you get to the ferry to go to Galvatraz. There is a road that runs right to the beach where you can actually drive on. The Pocket is the surf zone that sits just East of the jetties.
There is also a cut from the Gulf to East Bay at Crystal Beach. It’s a good place to fish on a tide change and there is actually some decent wading on the bay side.
San Luis Pass is West of Galveston. It is pretty good fishing but be very weary of wading the pass itself. Very bad currents. Claims 2 or 3 lives a year.
You can also fish any of the surf in Galveston.
