My mom gets her mail in Ball, and I've seen their cops go WAY past their city limits sign to the Grant line. So they've just extended the town limits all the way to the line? Nice.

I'm not 100% if it is "all the way" - but not more than a football field or two. I don't go north through town, much - unless I'm going to Monroe - I do slow down when I cross back into Rapides, but my turn is where the cops wait for south bound speeders, using that hill crest as cover - but, that's well within town limits.

That used to be mostly empty space around the parish line.

If anyone is interested Brownells has the AE 420 Rd cans for $199 each. Not the best price but it's in stock at the time I linked.

Here we go again.

200, 500 and 1000 round packs of bulk, especially the cheap stuff like Tula and Wolf are disappearing online since this started going around. I found a 240 round pack of 55 Wolf for 26 cents a round but it took going to a couple of dozen sites. Everyone is getting cleaned out.

Which is dumb because the cheap stuff isn't on the proposal by the ATF. Proves how poor the reading comprehension is among the masses. XM193 is still plenty available.

Scary, really. Just reminds you how fast it can dry up with any little thing. Sunday evening I was looking to order 500 rounds of cheap bulk because I needed it. The ATF thing never crossed my mind. I was basically just looking around for the best price because everyone had plenty of stock. I got distracted and ended up not placing an order.

When I went back yesterday afternoon to go ahead and order everything was mostly gone.

I'm not seeing any run on the cheap stuff. Lake City XM193 is still selling for about $0.35 a round and is readily available. The only scarcity is indeed the XM855, and it's selling for $0.50-$1.00 per round on gunbroker.

Midway is never that cheap anyway. It's still readily available for $0.3x at numerous online sellers.

Eta: I meant the 193.

That is absolutely not true.

The 26 cents a round stuff in packs of 200-1000 was everywhere Sunday and gone Tuesday.

XM193 is still available and still relatively cheap. Local places here have the floors covered in the stuff. M855 is what is getting a run on.

I understand. My point is we all know where they are trying to go with this. A wee bit of steel in the m855 isn't what the broader issue is. Once the m855 is gone, don't think another round won't be next. They'll use the tumbling/destructive tendency of the .223/5.56, or any other excuse, to go after more rounds.

I don't think they can without completely disregarding Federal law. With M855 they are getting very close because the round does contain a small steel slug but it sits on a base of lead/antimony. That alone should disqualify it from armor piercing based on how the law is written.

quote:

18 U.S.C., § 921(a)(17)(B)

A projectile or projectile core which may be used in a handgun and which is constructed entirely (excluding the presence of traces of other substances) from one or a combination of tungsten alloys, steel, iron, brass, bronze, beryllium copper, or depleted uranium; or

A full jacketed projectile larger than .22 caliber designed and intended for use in a handgun and whose jacket has a weight of more than 25 percent of the total weight of the projectile.

M855 fits neither of these definitions. The neither the whole projectile or its core is entirely made of the listed materials in the first part. As for the second part, M855 has a jacket that weighs a little over 30% of it's total projectile weight but was never designed with the intent of handgun use (it was designed for the FN Minimi/M249 SAW).

Not arguing, just saying there was a run on the cheap stuff in 200+ bulk packs. I never said there was a run on 193 and other stuff. The ATF stuff last weekend absolutely caused a run on cheap end bulk.

I think there's a good chance of a lawsuit which will overturn this BS decision.

It's nothing more than backdoor gun control. They're even going against their own definition of AP ammo.
