So, i have 2 blueberry bushes and a small fig tree in my backyard. Been having them for about 2.5 years now, and i've eaten a total of 3 or 4 figs, and a half a handful of blueberries. The damn mockingbirds keep snatching all my fruit. How do you deal with them?

My dog is too lazy to chase them anymore, and i work so i can't camp out with my pellet gun. I've tried pie pans on sticks, but that looked really bad in the back yard. Last year, i staked around the bushes/trees in all 4 corners and attached netting going to the ground. It worked for about 2 weeks. Then the birds started flying right up to the bush, landing on the ground, and hopping under the netting and snagging my berries/figs.

My plan this year is a large bird feeder in the other corner of the back yard in hopes it distracts them from my berries. Any suggestions on a viable solution to rid me of these bastards?

Yeah, that won't work.

If the betting went all the way to the ground, how did they get under it?

Have you tried an owl decoy?

I had about 4-6 inches of space from the bottom of the net to the ground. Smart bastards figured that out.

Take an old cassette tape and stretch the tape across the area and over your bushes. Use several lengths of it. That tape fluttering in the wind scares birds. It worked for me protecting my strawberries...

What about a rubber snake? I heard that works sometimes.

Tried this on my fruit trees. They figured out it wasn't real and then paid it no mind.

Spray your trees, they most likely are more after the bugs than the fruit.

Shoot one and toss it in the tree.

My paw paw used to shoot a couple of non song birds and leave em under the feeder. Turns out birds are racist too. Unless it's one of them, they pay it no mind.

Cassette tape and or fishing line works, get a big roll of like 20-30 lb test and string it in the air so the sun glitters off it. it will keep them from flying near it.

I haven't found anything that will work except the netting that you mention...I basically gave up on it because that is just too much of a pain in the arse...

Get a cat. A cat will spend all its time killing things around your house. They get a bad rep because people want a cat to act like a dog but they are good pets if you accept them for what they are.

7 1/2 shot works pretty good, but then again, I live in the country so the neighbors don't mind. Pie pan noisemakers mounted in the tree work to an extent. I'd like to one day have a low-powered, automated propane cannon for my muscadine vineyard.
