Are you still allowed to camp on the Chandeleurs?

Camping is allowed on freemason Island if it is still there after the last hurricanes. It is not a part of the federally protected chain. It had gotten pretty narrow though. Not much room to pitch tents at high tide.

Can stay at the Islander Lodge LINK

I’ve always wanted to stay there in the spring/early summer when the surf fishing kicks off.

Can anyone confirm if any part of the island is still there? Anyone make a trip last year?

I put feet on Freemason last year but not after Zeta. It's still there I'm sure. I wouldn't camp on it though. I've spent plenty a night on the deck of a rocking boat out there.

Chandy Thread November 2020

Best bet would be to post over on the Hull Truth. They have quite a few members who fish out there regularly. That is the most recent thread I could find but it doesn't talk about Freemason specifically.

Just curious, why would you not camp on it? I've never camped/stayed over night out there. We are talking about making a trip in late April/Early May, trying to figure out best options on staying overnight out there.

The Hull Truth and search Visco in members, he knows about what you ask.

It's not that big and entirely made of shells. It's a long ridge. Not really much flat space to pitch a tent.

If you just want to stay a singular night then The Islander is your only choice unless you sleep on your boat or on the shells of Freemason.

Curious about this too. &really want to go make some camping trips, just nowhere to really do it. Sleeping in the marsh is less than desirable, and there are only so many islands...

Yep, I was out there Thursday, it’s still there. Probably 50-100 feet wide, +2 to 3 or so above whatever the water level was that day.

Not a ton but enough to keep you interested. 6 of us caught 38 in about 5 or 6 hours.

Nice, more trout than we've seen since November, maybe December.
