You can buy an electric smoker or a propane smoker for a LOT less money if you don't want to deal with wood or charcoal.

You will never cook a hamburger or a steak as good on a Traeger as you can on charcoal IMHO. You will never smoke a butt or a chicken or a brisket on a Traeger as good as you would on a real smoker regardless of the heat source IMHO.

I own one and rarely use it. I use it when we need an extra oven. Like I put the Thankgiving turkey on it and I did cook a brisket on it the other day. The turkey was like it was cooked in the oven and brisket had a little smoke smoke flavor but it really was nothing close to what I do with wood or charcoal. Just my experiences.

My problem with that is that I rarely clean my grill good enough. Ive caught my grill on fire a few times above 400 degrees.

Treager is a UT company,

It's an Oregon company that was bought out and moved....so, I guess it's a Utah company.

Treager is overpriced. They are the worst value in pellet grills.

Smoke Daddy Pellet Pro
Green Mountain
Pit Boss
Louisiana
Camp Chef
Reqtec
Gorilla
Z Grill

All better value than Traeger. All made in China. The Pellet Pro body is made in China the rest is made in the USA. Smoke Daddy Inc sells a hopper assembly to make your own pellet grill out of whatever you want. LINK It is made in the USA so they aint cheap

The only pellet grill I have seen professional bbq cooks use is Green Mountain Grills.

I have a Green Mountain and like it a lot. I don't know how long the warranty is, but I've had mine for a few years and the heating element recently went out. They sent me a new one for free, no questions asked. If you have any questions or issues they'll respond within 24 hours. US-based customer service.

And the pizza attachment is awesome and makes great pizza. I've gotten that sucker up to 900 degrees, which I learned the hard way is too hot. You can use that same attachment to wood sear steaks, but I have yet to do it.

ETA a few pics pic of the setup and finished product for pizzas.

The guys that started Treager work for Danson Group now. They make Louisiana Grills and Pit Boss. So Pit Boss grills essentially improved Tragers at at better price.
