I’m on the verge of buying a flamethrower. I’ve can’t recall the last time they’ve been this bad in my area. Is there anything at all to put a dent in them?

So, I have lived in Louisiana most of my life. This year has been the worst for mosquitos in a long, long time, maybe ever.

No worries. Google is going to handle the mosquito problem.

Need to plant marigolds, lavender, thyme, & basil in your outdoor area landscaping, helps a lot...

Not sure where you are located, but in Tangipahoa they will come spray your yard for free. It helps a lot for a few days then they are right back.

Came here to say this. My parish does the same.

Yeah I’m in St Tammany and they came out. And even pulled the truck as far back as they could to spray, the guy walked our property to address any issues like standing water (which I mitigate as much as possible) but it helped for maybe a day or two. My son loves to fish so we tried to go yesterday to a local pond and were swarmed like I’ve never experienced. Even grand isle was never this bad. It’s almost unbelievable.

I spray Bifen in my yard every 2-3 weeks. Used to have a company come out and they gave the neighborhood a pretty good discount based on how many homes signed up for the service. But I realized I could do it on my own for much cheaper. The only difference is they had a backpack fogger as well as garden sprayers. Cut the grass then spray the yard and bushes and lower tree limbs.

I was also out west for a week this year, and they had the mosquito dunks in buckets of water. Those seemed to help in the area we were in. I thought about getting some of those in addition to what I'm spraying, as I could leave a couple buckets out all the time.

because spraying your yard is a waste of time and does nothing but kill beneficial insects who don’t have a constant brood at the ready. Buckets of water with mosquito dunks are much more effective and perfectly safe for everything else.

I use this fogger Invatech and I fog with Talstar.

I have no issues for about 3 weeks, I am not regular about it and if i was i think I would have way less problems. I live on small acreage in St Tammany with thick woods, a pond and some slow draining spots. This combo works very well.

I've heard others on the H/G board having success with mosquito dunks. I put a couple out in my barn where the skeeters are bad. I'll report back in a month. Takes a few weeks to see results apparently.

It seems to make a difference at my house, and my yard stays covered up with bees and wasps after they come spray.

I'm sure it hoses the beneficial insects but it absolutely does work for mosquitoes.

There's plenty of cane fields around here for the bugs to live, my little plot of mosquito free heavan isn't making a dent.

The dunks don't kill the mosquitos, it simply prevents their eggs from hatching in the water. Because their life cycle is about 3 weeks, that's why it takes that long. They die off naturally, and aren't being replaced with new ones. But this only works if there's not other standing water for them to lay eggs, including your neighbors.

I had a mosquito magnet that used a propane tank and some type of attractant. Put it to the back of the yard away from where you will be and let it do its thing. Takes a week or two to make a difference but that thing was catching gallon bags full and it did make a difference.

I’ve had good luck with trying dunks in buckets and the propane fogger. I also prevent any standing water around as well as I can. The buckets is what someone else recommended. I put some leaves for organic material on about 5-7 inches of water with a dunk in it on the side near the suspected problem area. Holes in the top. Mosquitos seem to come and go all summer.

Get buckets with lids. And mosquito dunks. I went from spraying every three weeks to not needing to spray.

I have effectively no mosquitos around the house currently. Multiple acres.
