re: Are Gloomis inshore baitcasting rods worth buying?

quote:I've been fishing Loomis rods for a L-O-N-G time (at least 20 years). A couple are NRX. 9-10 others are rods that were Loomis' top-of-the-line bass rods when I bought them. They are very sensitive when fishing worms and jigs.
Between the quality and warranty are they worth the price for inshore trout and red fish? If so which models are worth it?
I have only had to return one Loomis rod (snapped in half on hookset). This was ~ 20 years ago (before Shimano bought them), and they argued a lot before replacing it.
That said, I've stated fishing some of the Lew's rods lately (last 6 months) for topwater, crankbaits -- even worms. They are very sensitive, and Lew's offers lengths and actions that just work really well for me.
I can't imagine that sensitivity (or lack of sensitivity) would be an issue with any decent rod (All Star, Falcon, whatever) if you're fishing for specs and reds.

I might try that, I was looking at the 2020 shimano zodias as well but the length/power I want is back ordered with no date of shipment. I hate sub 7' rods, IDK why. Either that or I'm gonna pick up an ugly stick carbon from Walmart for $66 until I decide on a rod. I have two of those ugly stick carbon spinning rods 7'3" MF 100% 24T blank tip to butt with a solid graphite tip. They are rediculously sensitive, more so than my shimano clarus rods, they are normally $80 but walmart sells them for $66 for some reason. I use them for jigging and carolina rigs and rarely miss a bite.

See my way of thinking is do I want to buy and GLoomis E6X for $220 and if I break it can replace it for $100 or do I do I wanna pay $200 for a Shimano zodias that might be a hair nicer but if I close it in a rod box I cry because shimano has trash warranties. Or do I even need any of these super sensitive rods? I can't stand bass fishing tbh, it's too much work for too little reward. I would rather catch fish all day haha!

You can find them regularly for $180. I picked up 2 for sale a year or so back at $100 each.

They fish well and hold up. I have 3 green waters 2 spinning that are at least 7 years old, and a new bait caster. They work and hold up. I keep hearing the warranty is awesome but haven't had a reason to check it out.

Where did you pick those bad boys up for $100, for that price I would buy like 5... I only own 4 baitcasters lol!

I'm definitely gonna have to hold some glooms in my hand. I just bought a used once Curado DC 151 6.2:1 on a brand new Curado 7'2" HF rod with 30lb power pro maxcuatro for $250 on the way home from the airport. Found it on facebook. Can't wait to try that tank out, both the reel and rod are flawless. Gonna use it for redfishing rod, and a dock rod for horsing them big bulls off structure.

Have a GLX that is awesome. Also ordered an Edge (Gary's company as Gloomis made by Shimano). Haven't used it yet but Im excited about it.

I ordered a bunch of Star Steller Lite inshore rods... I hope they are OK. I was talked into them, suppose to have a lifetime OTC warranty that Bass Pro honors in store so I ordered through them.

Why not go custom at that price point? Get the exact blank, guides, handle and colors you want.
I believe most blank manufacturers have craftsmanship warranties for custom blanks.
How good is the warranty if you're at fault for a broken rod? If it only costs half the original price, how much are you overpaying on the front end?

I have heard good things about them and their warranty.

I have wondered this as well. I am looking to redo my inshore set ups and have been looking at some new rods. I like some of them that Saint Croix sells but when you start getting too 200 for a rod why not just get a custom one. I have never looked into getting custom rods before so I don’t know the answer but I’m all ears.

Guess I’ll be the odd man out. I have 2 ex6’s both with Shim Calcutta’s mounted and both the rods are getting a “loose” sensation in the real seat and forward area. A popping noise driving my crazy every time I jig the rod. I have reseated the reels a few times with no luck. Put a Calcutta on a new Lews inshore rod and no more problems. I’ll be swapping my others over at Christmas.

I have over ten G Loomis rods and four are the early green water series. 2 683 and 2 742 GL3. Only rod that several guides have offered to trade for the trip? For Trout rod no one can duplicate their action and lightness.

Based on their warranty info you should be able to get those replaced.

Great warranty on their rods. OTC replacement for manufacturing defects. Used this for a stellar lite when a tip broke 1st time out. No questions and only had to wait a couple days for an exact replacement to come in.
At fault issues are supposed to be very reasonable for replacement.
If OP wanted a spinning rod I'd say that the high end stars are just as good with better customer service than Shimano-loomis.

Considered that. Thanks for the motivation.

No problem, please tell me how it goes! That's the main reason I'm looking into GLoomis for my casting rods.

I'm looking for casting rods atm. I'm gonna look at star and dobyns some more.

I know this is a gloomis thread but what about st croixs new mojo inshore and triumph rods. They were just redesign this year.
I have been looking at updating my gear and looking at the star rods but also the st croix rods. Looked at TFO inshore as well but they are not in stock and I don’t know of a place I can go lay hands on one.

This thread has kinda just morphed into a what rod company makes great rods and backs them with an exceptional warranty.
Also I've seen at croix mojo inshore and bass x rods at academy. IDK if the are the newest models, I would assume they are considering it's hard to stock discontinued rods.
