For SHTF, BCM and additional bullets/training/better optic would be a better use of your money.
Or, buy the parts individually and learn how to build one (I'm knee deep in it right now, and yes I swung and missed on a roll pin and scratched my BCM blem upper, sad).

Explain in your words where the extra 2k went in a DD ar.
I built my 300 blk without holding back on anything I wanted outside of upper and lower receiver (just went with Aero). I got the barrel, BCG, trigger, stock, grip, safety, charging handle, etc.. Cost wasn't a factor. I think the gun was $1500 and change not including optics and suppressor. Most of the DD's are in the $2100-2800 range. So, from my perspective, you are paying $600+ for name and the fact that it's already built. And honestly DD's barrels have a good reputation. I'd say they are considered better than what I ended up with (didn't sell what I needed), so there's some value in that too.

Sure, can definitely get them less than their website. Just listing MSRP. And my point was more that they really aren't $2k overpriced like the other poster stated. You can argue several hundred overpriced, but I'd still buy one. I am always close to purchasing a DD4 RIII.

Bought myself a Del-Ton AR last year for Christmas at Pookies. $500 with no sights and I added a Sig Saur Romeo green dot sight. As far as I can tell it functions just like the M16 I used in the Army 35 years ago, minus the full auto feature.
I haven't put but a couple hundred rounds through it, but it goes bang as fast as I can pull the trigger.
As you can tell I'm not an AR expert, but if somebody tries to come at me he'll be in trouble.

Get a BCM complete upper and an Aero complete lower snap them together for around $1100, that gun will run great and be reliable. Spend the other $900 on the Beretta A300..that’ll give you a quality AR and a quality shotgun that’ll last you a life time

I was looking at a ddm4v7 today and wondered if they are noticeably better?
You've got to ask yourself "better at what?"
A reliable AR is a reliable AR. If you already have several plane jane ARs and want something different I'd spend the money on a piston setup, not just a more refined version of something you already own.

BCM and DD guns are built to shoot 1000’s of rounds without having to replace parts. Better barrels, BCG and springs. A PSA or Areo will suit your needs just fine. If I had to have just one AR I would consider getting a DD.

Wait til the 4th of July sale and get a G$ Super Duty for around $1200.
Much better gassed than a DD, and still durable. Either that or just get an LMT for the $2K range if you are bent on spending that much.

***update***
Took the boards advice and got 2 guns instead of a DD. Ended up with a cmmg with a bronze cerekote and a beretta a300 20g in a camo pattern.

mil-spec is mil-spec ....supposedly. lots of vids on youtube of supposed cheap built rifles being abused for better than 1k rounds with no failures.
If it's not truly a duty rifle, then just buy a reasonably priced mil-spec rifle and use it. It will treat you fine.

Build your own. Way more rewarding and will be just as good.

Geissele Super Duty just went in sale for $1398 at Europtic. LINK
This is what you buy if you want a buy once cry once rifle. MUCH better trigger than a DD and one of the best gassed rifles you can buy. Ready for Hux Suppressors as well.
