This duck season is basically shot already. I am hoping it stays warm enough not to kill any fish for this year!

Cleaned my shotgun and put it up last week. I'm done with 2018-19 season. From Kansas to North Missouri and then down to Northeast Arkansas, it was terrible.

Best of luck to those toughing it out!

What would really help is a later season. I wonder if anyone has brought that up to the powers that be.

No it wouldn't and yes it has been brought up a gozillion times. Birds have been paired up for weeks and would only get more difficult to hunt in say Feb and more so in March and April, May they go nocturnal.
My pond heaters and nets will be delivered via amazon prime thursday.

Conservation

They have to set the dates. Federal government says you can set your dates from sept 24-Jan 31st and each state can set there splits however they want but cannot go past the 31st of January (except for a youth weekend). Biologist believe that ducks pair up some time in January, and that the ducks need some unpressured time to fatten up for the flight back north to breed. I’m guessing they feel that if the dates ran into Feb, it would disrupt the migration back up north and cause more harm then good. Whether anyone believes this or not is up to them, but I don’t think extending the season would benefit the south as much as colder weather would.

I was kidding. I thought that was an old played out joke on here, asking about a later season.

It would take some extreme pressure from some powerful people to move seasons into February

Supposedly thats when the ducks pair up and the biologist will not let it happen.

I guess Blues and Snows don't pair up or they don't care because there are so many of them because you can kill them until March

Duck season used to open the first weekend in Nov., when I was younger. Then they moved it to the second weekend for some odd reason. I wish it opened in late October and ran thru December and closed. On to fishing.

Anyone want to take a side bet that duck numbers aren't gonna make a hill of beans difference on this cold front....any takers? Paypal
