AR15 Mag/Round Question

I have both Colt/metal style mags and PMAGs. Couple of questions:
If I wanted to have a couple mags loaded ready to go for the zombie apocalypse
(a) Which one should I keep loaded? The metal mag or the PMAG?
(b) What's a "safe" number of rounds to keep for a while on the spring without wearing it out for a 20 round mag and a 30 round mag?

I have tons of 30rd PMAGs that I keep loaded.

Loaded full or half?
If full...any issues with springs weakening?

Springs loose spring with repeaded compression and decompression, not from siting one way or the other...

Leave 'em full if you'd like.
As Carson said, ditch the metal mags. They don't hold a candle to Pmags.

Doesn't matter and keep all the mags. I stick to current tan-follower 30-rd USGI, steel H&K, and early Colt production all metal 20-rd mags.

Pmags are the tits man. I needed a gun mag for my AR when using my bipod so I bought a little 10 round metal one from Cabelas that just flat out sucked so hard.
So I got a 20 round Pmag and we're ready to roll...

The tops of the metal ones can bend making them unusable. Sell the metal ones and buy pmags.

Don't listen to these cats saying to sell your metal ones.
I have both metal and pmags... if and when one of my metal ones were to mess up, well lucky I have 20 more of them.
So far all my metal ones still feed flawlessly, and I have 3 or 4 different brands of metal ones.
In fact, my favorite mag for capacity reasons is metal. It's a 42 round mag...
All that said, the pmags are nice, but don't think that just because pmags are for sale metal ones stopped working over night.

Shot one of those for the first time last Saturday. SWEET.
I have litle experience with rifles/pistols. Most of my hunting was duck/squirrel. I wasn't aware of a "red dot" scope with the "laser" inside. Are these common?

I usually load my mags to 27 or 28 rounds but that's just because they're easier to load in the rifle with the bolt closed.

Im with you.
If anyone wants to sell metal mags for like 5 bucks a pop, Ill take them.
I bet nobody wants to sell any.

I keep 2 9mm mags fully loaded just in case I need to use them quickly. Have had them sit there fully compressed for about 3 months. Haven't noticed any difference in springyness the other day when I unloaded the rounds

I'm new to the AR world. What makes Pmags better? Someone mentioned the tips of metal mags possibly bending, but is there any other reason?
For that matter, what would you say make a rifle magazine good or bad?

They look better, are much more durable, and they feed much more reliably.

H&k mags are far superior
Pmags are alright...I've seen a few break catastrophically in rough conditions.
If you're not gonna be doing any crazy shite and just want good reliable mags keep your metal SI ones and put anti tilt followers in them. They make the mags feed pretty damn well.

ETA: I dont really care about "proof". Magazines are disposable items, they have life cycles and every one is bound to fail sooner or later.
The real question here is can the shooter identify a mag related problem and know what to do next.
After all, who here only carries one mag? What happens if that mag fails?
