Guy wants to sell me his Rock River Arms AR which hasn’t had 300 rounds ran through it. Guy is asking $850. Yea, nay or meh? Rifle only, accessories are being removed. Seller says he paid roughly $1000.

Rock river makes nice stuff, but the AR market is pretty tapped out right now.

You could probably build or find another brand for cheaper brand new.

You could get an upper and a lower from Palmetto State Armory and put it together yourself for a lot cheaper.

I have an RRA 20" HBAR, solid rifle. You could pay less for a PSA but $850 for the RRA is a good deal. Drop in one of their National Match triggers.

Way too high unless it includes a good bit of accessories. He may have bought it for $1,000 years ago but ARs are much more affordable now. You can get a better rifle than that brand new for less than $850 these days.

Might be on the high side, bur RRA makes fine rifles. I have one with the NM trigger - it's super accurate and has been 100% reliable.

Find out what new rifles in that model are selling for. Offer him $100 less. You won't be able to turn around and sell it for a profit -- but if you're planning to keep it, you'll have a fine lifetime rifle.

I’ve had a RRA CAR-15 for 13 years now. It’s solid and has eaten any and all ammo including the cheap Russian stuff with no issues.

Yes, you can get a PSA set up brand new and cheaper but the quality between the 2 is apples and oranges.

Find the model/style he is tying to sell you on Gunbroker. I bet they are in that same price range. If you buy from him there is no tax, transfer fee, shipping, or paper on it.

A good deal in my book.

After reading the answers I think I will try to buy it after talking him down some. I want a higher end AR for my first one, just for peace of mind that it’s a good one.

Merry Christmas and thanks to all who answered .

I just purchased an M&P AR15 for $495.00 brand new from Gun Prime. Don’t know how that compares to the Rock River tho.

A $495 AR will have a single stage trigger and a thinner walled barrel. Probably not much of a rail system either.

I looked on the RRA web site and they post the MSRP of their guns, I saw one for $760 I think

I wouldn't get it. The front sight post is permanently attached to the barrel, making optics awkward.

The hand guard up front isn't attached with screws. That ring pulls back and the hand guards pop off. I don't like the design, but others might.

For your money, there are better options. I would think a PSA on sale with a trigger upgrade would be better bang for buck.

I see new complete Aero Precision M4E1 rifles for $850 ish all the time. Brownells and Primary Arms typically have sales even cheaper. IMO the M4E1 is a better quality and more modern setup than the Rock River rifle mentioned in the OP.

I don't doubt that he did, but that is all dependent on when he bought it not what it's worth.

Anybody who bought an AR in the Obama Era pad at least a grand.

Hard pass, for me, IMHO
