I'd say the same for Colt, too, but at least you're getting chrome lined barrels with both of those, which, for most people, will last nearly a lifetime.

Welp, I pulled the trigger on a complete upper and complete lower from PSA. After shipping, it cost $551. Its being shipped to a friend of mine who has a FFL. So after the FFL fee, it will be less than $600. I had a buddy here at work review my order to make sure I'm getting what I needed, and he approved.

<$600 is a much easier pill to swallow than $800-$1000 to see if I enjoy shooting it enough to build a nice model.

They are solid guns. You’ll enjoy it and wonder why you waited so long.

I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that you're going to spend more money on upgrades and you should probably start planning your next build now. My 5.56 looked way too lonely, so it got a short .300BLK buddy.

The good news is that you're gonna be getting another new rifle soon!

yeah i know this is going to open a can of worms, but ohh well. I bought the BLEM items from PSA. Im guessing it means they have some nicks or scratches on them from what ive read. It made the items a lot cheaper. Any of you have experience with the BLEM items? What can i expect?

Eta: i guess i have an AR thread with 864 pages to read through now

Yeah, blem items have minor cosmetic imperfections that shouldn't affect performance or safety. They just don't meet the manufacturer's QA/QC requirements to sell at full price.

I buy blem items whenever they're available. A gun is a tool and I'm going to put nicks and dents in it just training. I don't buy a gun expecting it to be a showpiece and sit pristine in a closet.

A lot of those blem items are so minorly blemished that they're undetectable. I have yet to find the blemishes on my Aero blem receivers.

Hell, I've been trying forever to get one of Geissele's Count Blemula rifles with no luck. Every piece except barrels and internals on those multicolored abominations is a blem item.

Thats kinda what i figured. Might have a few scratches that are noticeable, or it may have some that arent at all noticeable. Either way, i dont think a few scratches to save a few hundred bucks will keep me up at night.

You’re gonna love it! My AR10 is from PSA and it’s never had any issue. I’m guessing you got the .223? It’ll shoot like a dream. Loud af but no recoil. I like the toughness of the AR. Don’t have to baby it.

The one blem lower I have from PSA just has anodizing that's not dark enough. No nicks, scratches or anything else, it just looks sorta grey compared to the upper.

I have a few...erm...dozen of the PSA blems

The most that any of them have is a tiny dimple where a dimple shouldn't be.

Other than that, flawless

I think we're all in agreement. Buy blems and put the savings into ammo.

You did the right move- below $600 is better than over $800 for a comparable tier gun.

I'm about a year ahead of you in getting ARs; once I figured out the price of a complete rifle vs an upper/lower, I will never buy a complete rifle again. You save over a hundred dollars, and the gun is one step closer to your initial clean and inspection.

PSA blemished- I have 2 and can't find a thing wrong. That seems to be a very common observation on those.

I'm NOT an expert, so I defer to the crowd; but a lot of online research has led me to believe a lower is a lower, as long as it's made of the right alloy and is in spec. I think the proliferation of DIY 80% lowers confirms that; I know some are bought because of the privacy issue. But if it weren't making functional guns, it wouldn't be so popular.

A really neat (and cheap/expensive ) thing about the AR's, that I've gotten hooked on, is that uppers DO interchange, and ship to your door. Which means if you want to try a different caliber or style out, you just need to find an upper, now. And if you like it enough (you will), you can then buy a lower to dedicate to it, when you have the funds.
You just need compatible mags and ammo.

I got the nearly the same set up, my upper didn’t have the sight set, and I went with the stripped lower and kit, but it’s all the same parts.

It’s a surprisingly good shooter.

I did screw myself by ordering at the height of the craze instead of being patient and waiting until a more reasonable time, like now.

I said I didn't think they were a great value, not that there's anything wrong with them. They're pricey for a mil-spec gun.

Hate to tell you this but you are about to be bitten by BRA.
as a friend calls it "Black Rifle Addiction".

No cure. Just have to keep it in check with a credit card.
