Im a novice, but i went 556/223 mainly bc i already have a 1977 Colt AR that shoots 223, and an old wise man once told me always have two guns for each caliber you buy.

My buddy just got a 300blk and his ammo is way more expensive than 223 range ammo and he hasnt been able to find any on shelves. Ive had no problem recently getting 223.

I fear I may have fallen down a quite deep rabbit hole here, does the board have any good recs on some good AR-15 building Youtube channels?

I think something that will be useful to you was mentioned earlier in this thread. It's an app that takes you step by step in putting a gun together from virtual representations of real parts and it's in 3D, so you can poke around and play with how everything fits together virtually to familiarize yourself with how it all works.

EDIT: Yeah, Rando was the guy. The app is gunstruction.

On brownell's website they have instructional videos. I thought they were very well done and used them on my first build

Anyone have any recommendations for a ready to go, tricked out AR that I can just buy without having to do all the work that wouldn't absolutely murder my wallet?

By "tricked out" what exactly do you mean? what is your price range?

Still doing the research on what I like, it's early for me but I do like the one in this guys video.

nsz86 Youtube

I like that stock, pistol grip, look of the upper/rail, front grip, etc.

I'm curious what the difference in price would be to buy the basic upper and lower from PSA, seems like it'd be 600-800?? Or just buying the gun with everything I want already on it.

I don't know the details on any of those parts but I like that look just from watching a bunch of youtube videos.

First thought on price range would be 800-1200 but I've just started really researching.

but where's the fun in that?

you can likely get blemished lowers and uppers much lower than that, and it's been pretty well discussed and agreed on that it's tough to even tell why they are sold as blemished.

All about your budget though. I went straight budget prices for my first to find out if I'd like it (I do), if I'd actually shoot it (I do) and if it would serve a purpose besides looking cool (it does)

My next one will be built for accuracy.

To clarify my badly worded post I meant the difference of buying the standard upper and lower for call it 500/700?? But then replacing the stock, pistol grip, adding the front grip, etc.

Or just buying one that already has all of the stuff I want on it already. Would I really be saving much buying the cheaper upper and lower?

Actually just found the 900 page AR thread that Carson started and was looking through some of his recommendations. Found this one below and is basically what I want, not sure if I could build something equally quality for significantly cheaper or just buy this one?

Hey, DD are awesome rifles, they are regarded as some of the best on the market, but your likelihood of finding one now, or even finding uppers or lowers, is almost zilch. They're also nearly $2K, which, many people regard as a little overpriced.

ETA: There are DD in stock out there and that model is about $2 grand. There are some 16" models out there for a little less.

some brands you should look at.

- BCM
- Tri Arc Systems (never going to be in stock)
- FN
- SOLGW
- LWRC
- LMT (never going to be in stock)
- Knights Armament (never going to be in stock)
POF USA

Good info, thanks for the reply. I really like that LWRC you linked I wasn’t aware the Daniel Defense would never been in stock.

If you can’t do that for a DD then it’s impossible. I’m not badmouthing their quality at all, but their pricing is…… not optimal.
