AR 15: Do I need to register as SBR for 14.5” Barrel?

I’m building my AR and having some legality question. If I use a 14.5” barrel, do I need to register it as an SBR or use a pistol brace, or am I still in the clear to call it a rifle?

yes less than 16". use a pistol brace. Is that not clear in the laws?

If you have a long muzzle break that makes the barrel longer than 16" and is permanently attached then you are ok. Otherwise, you need to SBR it or get an arm brace. You can not build it into that configuration waiting the 9 months for the stamp to come back.

This. And a lower that has never been used as/on a rifle.
I don't know how they would know, but that is my understanding of the law.
Piss on the whole SBR thing. Look into the SBA3 pistol brace.

The PDW braces look sick too. But I like my SBA3

Send it to ADCO or Retro Arms Works. It's $70 for the pin/weld or $140 if you send them the complete upper to disassemble/assemble like I did with a Colt 6921 upper. Use a BCM A2X if you're going for an M4 clone.
Edit: A regular A2 flash hider only puts the length at 15.9". The BCM is .2 longer so it's 16.1.

Just looked up a picture and I agree it's pretty damn funny it's considered a brace.
I think the one thing a regular stock can do better is allowing the user to "mortar" the rifle if a round is stuck in the chamber. Besides that, it's pretty much the same deal.

Have you felt how stiff it is? I bet it would do that

Agreed. I just swapped out my Kak blade on my 2A arms 300blk pistol to the sb3, can’t wait to shoot it.

The Kak blade is still my favorite.

Same here. It's not a good brace but it sure makes a good stock.

Turned me on to the SBA3.

It's legit.
