Not .243 but I have one in 6.5 cm and another in .308.
Just need to make sure you are using a longer buffer tube to cycle reliably.

I have one in .243. It is a little heavy the way I have it set up. But is accurate and fun. I have a DPMS

Nice. Rock River makes a Predator 243 that I been eyeballing could probably build my own much cheaper but I do t one much about building.

I have a bolt .243 setup on an AR platform. McRee Precision Br-10. Thing is an absolute tack driver out to 1200 yards. And i shoot 115 gr DTACs out of it.
Also have an AR-10 6.5 cm

Just remember, you get what you pay for in large frame gas guns. They are much much more finicky than the 556 AR/M4 platform.
Rock River makes good stuff though. That should be your starting point.

I’m not an AR specialist by any means but there’s really no reason to do this at all. Everything will be more expensive, less available, and more untested. That’s not a highly specialized need at all and there’s a lot of rounds that work great for coyotes and Hogs that are on proven, reliable, and very common platforms.
I’m all about more guns but this doesn’t do anything for you beneficial but hurt your wallet imo

I have a 6.8 spc and it’s somewhat of a 243 ballistics wise I have killed several deer and hogs with it but it’s based on a ar15 size frame. The 243 is gonna be a ar10 platform and will be harder to build or get parts for.
I have a 223 and with the right ammo it kills and the dead animals hogs and deer look like all the other dead animals I have killed with other cartridges. Shooting federal fusions we have killed numerous deer out to ranges of 150yd with great results some being pass throughs and others just making insides turn to jello.
Bullets are cheap and easy to find as is the pieces and parts for 223 rifles.

I get you for sure. First thing I thought of (and quite frankly surprised I haven't hear more of) is why do want a 243, it's an outdated and a rarity on the ar platform. Just get a 6.5CM or 300 BO.
Honestly it's not about need at all, purly want. Don't know if or when I'll ever get one but just was curious if anyone had experience with them,.

Remington and Browning made semi autos for years that were chambered in .243. Get one of those. The results will be the same.

Browning BAR is a nice shooter. Never owned one but shot a friends in 308 cal. Can't imagine it would be any different in 243 as far as accuracy.

If you really want a 6mm AR10, look into the 6 creedmoor. Same thing as the 260 rem vs 6.5 creedmoor. The shorter case allow for better feeding from a magazine. There is plenty of hunting ammo available as well. May not be on the shelf at walmart like a 243 though.

Not to hijack but what flash hider do y'all recommend? I've got a 7-08 version I've never finished.
Posted on 6/18/24 at 8:03 am to Wraytex
I’ve only used flash hiders that fit the silencer that goes on it.
So, I wouldn’t be much help unless you want a silencer, which everyone needs.

Why do you need a flash hider?

I'm just running a thread protector at the moment and it just seems incomplete with that on there.
