My wife and I are looking at going and I’m looking for things to do. I’ve heard the diving is no good, so that is probably out
Not really wanting to catch a marlin, more like tuna, mahi, etc.

Fished with Redrum several years ago. They run a quality outfit. Owners are from Texas. Would book with them again in a heartbeat.

Many many many times.

Marlin is what most people to go Cabo for, however you will catch LOADS of Tuna and Mahi... they are much closer to shore and you will assuredly catch a few of each before lunch.

Pisces and Redrum are reliable but expensive.

Best prices are found at the marina, you should always negotiate your price AND THE ACTUAL BOAT and ensure they buy LOTS of live bait as they are leaving the marina (you will pass by dozens of small boats selling their live bait).

Some cheap assess will only buy a few pieces and you're fricked if it gets eaten in the first 30 minutes. it's happened to me.

Tuna migration path is off the tip of Cabo. I didn't fish it but wanted to years ago when me and my, now wife, went there for vacation(wife gets sea sick). Water is rough and the floor drops off very close to shore for some deep waters. Was told it's some of the best Tuna fishing out there.

Also there is a restaurant there. It was the best dining experience i've ever had. Views of Gulf of Cali at night with the sunset while eating some of the best tasting fresh seafood. Italian/Mediterranean cuisine. I recommend you drop in while you are there.

The donovan's sold out. I looked at the new website and they don't have the smaller affordable boats any more.

I would look at Pisces charters.

I go to Cabo usually as soon as hunting season ends to get away from clients and the cold. I’ve fished with Pisces for the last 10 or so years, never had a bad experience, fished everything from their pangas to the their huge yachts. Always a good time.

i just got back--we fished with Strictly Business*. Awesome boat and crew, caught multiple marlin and Mahi.

We had a group of 10 people on the boat, so the price was do-able, however it's a large boat (65ft i believe).

Highly recommend them.

*edited to correct name of specific boat

If you want to do something a little different one day, book a trip with Captain Jaime Gonzales for some inshore species.
Cabo Commander

He has both a 31 ft Seahunter CC and pangas. You can read about him on the Bloody Decks website forum. Everyone raves about him and his other guides. Bloody Decks

He also fishes offshore for pelagic species if that's what you want.

I went on the panga and wanted to catch some cubera snapper. We pitched freelined hardtails almost touching the rocks along the coast and caught some 15-20 lb cubera snapper. It's certainly a bit different than trolling for marlin & tuna all day, and you are doing the fishing. When they hit, count to 5 and then get them in before they go into the rocks or pull you in (drag is locked down).

Some examples:

If you have a day to spare do some surf fishing. I've caught some large(20 lb+) roosterfish, Mahi and cubera on poppers. It is a RUSH .
Use an 8000 reel and 11 ft surf rod.
Your welcome.

Fished with Prisces, ugh ugh I mean Pisces a few times and had decent trips. I think Cabo might be fished out. Try Guatemala with Sailfish Oasis. More sails than marlins when we’ve went but awesome experience. Plenty of dorado.

Didn't realize they sold it. Haven't looked at their prices in a while. I enjoyed drinking beer with them at the dock while our fish were being cleaned.

Thanks all. Do you bring fish back, or is that too much of a hassle?

Been there several times, it was way better a decade plus ago. I'd echo the recommendation to go further South; Costa Rica, Panama, Guatemala. CR is getting too much pressure it appears already in some areas. We were in Los Suenos last month and the fishing was off from the last few years according to our captains.

I also saw a post by Pelagic this morning they were canceling the 2024 Triple Crown of Fishing Tournament in Cabo, seems the Mexican Navy came in and took over the US owned Marina last week. Guess someone didn't get their paper bag full of cash this month, such is life in the part of the world. Probably hundreds of millions of dollars of US owned Sportfishers moored in that marina currently.

Try Guatemala

THIS

Much better fishing than cabo, although the nightlife shopping and wife shite is not great. For a strictly fishing trip you cannot beat guatemala.
