And it costs like $10 to go stand around a bunch of idiots if you want to fish. You even have to pay just to walk on the fricking thing. Tax dollars and BP oil spill dollars paid for it completely and they charge for what again? It may need maintenance in a few years, but isn't that what the St. Tammany budget is for?
I'd rather go to Sunset Pt. and not have to deal with that many people catching my fish

I haven't been but people are going... a lot.
Lots of fish being caught. Someone landed a 30"+ Black Drum the other day. Lots of Speckle Trout, but small and lots of croakers.
There's another pier in Mandeville, close to the Causeway, called Sunset Point.

There's a full time employee on site plus others that "patrol" the pier. Plus there's running water and lights that cost to keep on and running. It's only $3 to fish. I'd pay that anytime. There will soon be a bait shop and concession area also, once the entire pier area, which will include BOTH remaining spans of the old Twin Span.

I'll be taking my son and nephew on Saturday.
kids under 12 are free and only $3 to fish for adults... on par with what many of the piers in Fla. and Alabama charge.
Should be fun.

Might have to go one night when I visit my sister. Haven't put specs in the cooler in awhile.

Not positive, but I think Madisonville is the closest place.

The St. Tammany Fishing Pier is a success. It is, in fact, a bigger success than the parish imagined. From opening day, one week ago through noon today, the pier had 2,382 visitors.
“We were planning on 50 – 100 visitors each day,” said Parish President Pat Brister, “and we based our budget on those numbers. If the fishing continues at this pace, we will be able to afford to keep the bridge open a little longer in the evening.”
“The response has been tremendous,” according to Lisa Pratt Maddox, director of the Tammany Trace. “The pier is making lake fishing accessible to everyone.”
Lake Pontchartrain is offering a smorgasbord of fish at the pier, from croakers and drum to redfish and speckled trout. To date, the largest fish caught was a 59 pound drum caught by John Booth of Mandeville. Damian Williams caught the first speckled trout on opening day, May 18th. Remy Funches, on a field trip from Mr. O’Sullivan’s class at Northshore High School, caught the first catfish on opening day.

went last weekend and it is a nice place. Like someone said it is $3 to fish for the day. Live shrimp is the only thing that was getting any action. Caught 3 speckled trout but lost them due to line breakage. Make sure you have a heavy line. I dont know about beer but i dont think that is allowed. They also have cleaning stations avaliable

In how long of fishing? 3 trout without beer could be painful.

Not really close but there's a bait store in Lacombe at the corner of Lake Rd and Hwy 190. The bait shop is in the back of the building. They should have live shrimp and possibly some other live bait as well. Warning though, it's a bit pricey, being that they're "land-locked" and have to pay extra for storage and shipping of live bait. I believe it's $.45/shrimp for under 100.

I'm letting the crowd die down before I go out there. Le tthe newness and sightseers wear off.
I hear crabing will be limited. That is what I want to do. Stop over at Gus' Tackle to get all your fishing needs.
