anyone fish Marsh Island out of Cypremort Point?

Good fishing? How far is it? Do you need a 20' Bay Boat to get there?

Good for redfish, about 7 miles south of the point, you don't need a 20 footer as long as its calm. Be careful thought cause the bay can get rough quickly if there is a storm

I've fished the pass one time. The one on the west side of marsh island. We bottom fished for reds. Mixed with big black drum and hardheads. Wasn't very exciting.

The reason I ask is I want to buy a 18' Carolina Skiff JVX. 7 miles isn't too bad. So I should be able to catch Red, Specks, Flounder, maybe some crabbing and shrimping etc...?

You can catch a few reds and flounder from time to time. Specks, not so much. There are 3 dams for crabbing and castnetting for shrimp which are usually packed on the weekends with idiots and people from Lafayette that shouldn't own a boat. So get there early if you want to get a spot to park your boat. Also,the alligators have gotten used to the people and will take you crab traps if you don't watch them. Vermillion Bay can get pretty rough at times.

Put it this way, it's closer than any other place I fish and I don't go there. 
Can catch specs offshore during the summer if you put in at freshwater city. Also, takes forever for the water to get deep enough if you're looking for snapper
