anyone ever use and indoor range to zero a hunting rifle?

My sons 7mm 08 came in yesterday. Was going to Sherburne tomorrow to zero it for the weekend. However, the weather has different plans for me. I've heard precision can tell you how to zero it for 100 yards in their indoor range?

You shoot about an inch high at 25yds and you should be good for 100 but to be honest the gun needs to be shot at the longest distance you intend to shoot while hunting. Thats the only way to know what that bullet will do at that distance.
All you are going by is ballistics charts to find out what the bullet should do at 25 yds. The gun might decide at 100 yds it will shoot left or right or high or low but theoretically you should hit a deer at 100 yds sighted in at a half inch low to 1 inch high at 25yds.

Thanks for that informative post. How much time have you wasted looking for a gif instead of an answer to his question? frickin tool.

Whoa.
Anyways, I have done it before. I then took it to shoot at 100 and poi did shift a little. Bottom line is you can do it at 25 but make sure you shoot it to 100 before you hunt.

don't be mad at me cause you had a post filled with stupidity.
" my bullet goes straight at 25 yards but decides to hang rights at 100 yds"

With a few factors in play, you are looking at roughly being about .73" below bullseye @ 25 yards for a 100 yd zero. roughly .21" below bullseye @ 50 yds for a 100 yard zero.

where I'm taking him this weekend, his longest shot will be around 75 yards. I just want it close enough for a clean kill until I can take it to zero at 100. thanks for the help.

put that thing dead on a smidge below bullseye @ 50 and call it a day.

You can shoot long guns at Precision?

yes, but only 25yds
you can also shoot rifles at baker range

Yes. Find one that goes out 100 yds if possible.
Also, I find that with all the other noise/percussion going off around you, you may tend to flinch more...

Yes, they can with a simple computer program. Make sure they measure the scope height.

Nowhere close. 1" high at 25 yards is actually a 425 yard zero for that caliber. You would be 8" high at 100 yards, and 13" high at 250 yards.

At 25 yards, almost every caliber should be hitting below the bullseye. Think about it - you are starting out with your scope 1.5"-2" above the barrel. The exceptions would be .35 Whelen and .45-70.
Chad504 is much closer with the .73" low.

If you don't believe it, download the remington Shoot program and give it a try. https://www.remington.com/~/media/Files/remshoot.ashx

Pepperidge posted something called the 24 yard zero a week or so ago IIRC

for me, it depends on what my longest shot would be in the field. If it's something like 75-100 yards, i would have no problem sighting in at 25.
Any further, and i would definitely want to shoot it at 100 before trusting it to kill a once in a lifetime buck.
Too much room for error at those distances.

Whoever is saying high at 25 yards is wrong.
The guys behind the counter will tell you exactly where to be if you give them caliber and grain. You should always be low at 25 yards. I went to precision last week and my 243 100 grain is supposed to be at 1/4 low at 25 yards and my 270 1 1/2 at 25 yards. That's for a 200 yard zero.
Just make sure it's not off left or right at 25 yards because that's the difference between a gut/to far forward shot and a heart/lung shot.

Yup. I am the arsehat who always brings my .300 before the season starts. Not too popular with the people in the lane next to me

Sorry Chad504. I was wrong. It is low at 25yds. Thanks for that information.
