Foolproof method here. Thread line thru eyes and attach to reel spool. Lay line spool on ground label side up. Pull up on rod to unspool 6 feet of line lower rod and see if slack line is twisted or lays flat on ground. If twisted turn spool over and fill reel to within 1/4 " of spool lip do not over fill. Then I lay rod down open spool walk out 50 yards are so pulling and laying line on both sides of me (100 yards total). Wet a rag and hold line in wet rag as you reel back in. In my guiding years when mono was only thing available I maintained 12/15 reels and this method kept me sane. Good luck

How'd you maintain the other 3?

If not for the fact that I have gone to braid/nanofil/gliss exclusively, I would own one of those
I use mostly braid as well. I still think it's great to have , just because you can adjust the tension on the spool. Really lets me pack the braid on tight.

o lay the spool down on the floor to where the line comes off counter clockwise.
On floor with label facing the ceiling. Works perfectly fine unless an idiot is doing it.

I use braided line on everything - and I rarely use a spinning reel anyway (just for occasional perch fishing).
But here's how I've always done it: How to Fill Spinning Reel

Ya'll are putting way to much into this.
Thread through guides, tie to the spool, hold your fingers on the line with a little pressure and reel in until it is full. If I am doing more than one reel or a really big reel I will use a rag or something to not burn my fingers with the line.

Try this it works.
If the reel winds in a clockwise motion, prolly does, hold the spool of line so you are looking at it face up and new line is coming of counter clockwise.
This is for mono or Braid.
