Going up soon for the first time to hunt the Platte River. Anyone else been? Experience?

Thanks.

Crossed the Platte river at Columbus the day before yesterday. Not a drop of water to be seen. It is absolutely dry above the confluence with the Loup river and power canal. Last that I heard that is true for a long distance west also until there may be some outflow from Lake McConaughy out at Ogalalla, NE.

That is concerning.

I will be hunting near Ogalalla, so maybe it will be okay for water.

Thanks

You hunted with RL at PRO?

And yes if the weather is right and there is snow on the ground the hunting can be better than anywhere in the country along the North Platte and surrounding corn fields

Great friend to have. The turkey elk white tail and mule deer are all also incredible in that area

Open range grill in Ogallala has some good burgers if you’re in the area.

Have an aunt and uncle in Ogalalla. I've never been there, but she post pictures occasionally, it's always like snow in July and random stuff so about all I can add is be prepared for random weather.

Shot limits for the past three days on private property in Northern corner of Nebraska. Friend has a few ponds with ice eaters on them and it was incredible.

Hope you have a good hunt. Would appreciate an update when you return. Including a burger report if you bagged one.

Update: Lots of birds in the area but we didn’t harvest many.

Don’t use Central Nebraaka Outfitters guide service. Bad experience

Thanks for the update! How was the weather and migration shaping up?

Will be in Northcentral Kansas on the 9th. Hoping birds are still around.

Care to expand on why it was a bad experience? Hate to hear that

CNO has very limited land to hunt on but certainly didn’t advertise that. Basically they are hunting on land they already own in order to save money on leases. If the birds aren’t there then you are screwed. They also didn’t seem to do proper scouting.

The owner of Central Nebraska Outfitters takes your money and then vanishes for the remainder of your visit, leaving you with a guide whose motivations are dubious.

Tons of birds in the area. Snowed on the day we were leaving.
