We did pretty decent the first week of the season, but since then it’s been very slow. No wind, been hot, not even seeing many birds. We hunt in the port barre area fyi.

Hunted Lacassine lodge today. Warm, foggy, 0 wind. Limited on teal and had 3 specs. Don’t think we saw 15 big ducks. Field bordered refuge, we could hear the birds over there, they just didn’t move in the fog. Jumped a few mallards and spoons on way out.
Fog had cleared when we got back to camp, saw a few good groups trading, mostly pintail.

Not too bad of a day! But yes, we’ve been killing mostly teal. Opening day 4 man limit of all teal. Started killing some grays and spoonies lately. We’ve seen a few pintail and a couple mallards but of course they light in the water 200 yards from our blind. Decided not to go tomorrow, but going to try Saturday. We need some fronts with some cold and bad weather. Our field needs a good rain… think our pumped in water is evaporating quicker than we can pump it

We hunt about 15 or so miles as the crow flies north of Port Barre off of 71. Opening weekend was great. We got our limit sat and sun of mostly teal and spoons with a couple of woodies. Last weekend wasn't bad. My buddy went yesterday and said it was the opposite of opening weekend. Hardly any birds. Haven't seen many geese either. We need a front bad.

Not the best season, but not the worst season. Location location location has been the ticket.

Yeah, we usually do well early in the season, and unless we have good weather it tapers off toward the end of the first split. We always see plenty of ducks… but the wind determines whether they come into our spread or not. We need some fronts

Hwy 27 headed south to Cameron was loaded up with every breed you could imagine yesterday morning at 9 AM. Easily over 1000 birds in one small spot. To bad its right off the hwy.

Our blind has a foot of water. Two of the other blinds in our field don’t have much of any at all yet.

Damn… that’s rough. Sorry to hear that. Our blind is the epitome of Cadillac’n… so a bad hunt doesn’t break my heart as bad. I feel bad for the guys throwing out decoys and wading through the water. I couldn’t do it lol

I’ve made roughly 20 deer hunts since opening day of primitive, have not seen shite for deer but have had minimum 20 wood ducks within range damn near every day. About to say f it and start going sit with rifle and shotgun. I normally don’t start doing that til end of season when we ain’t seeing shite.
