I was marsh/inshore lyfe since I was 10. Offshore is my new fetish. I'd take 1 offshore trip over 5 inshore trips any day of the week these days

Hearing a tiagra 50 scream with the drag buried is like sex without a condom

I don't fish with live bait majority of the year so it's definitely not as easy as some people make it out to be
I do and I still have some not so great days

I mean me too, you still have to be where the fish are. Summer time Carolina rigged croakers on the beach is fricking deadly when you catch the specks right.

I'm into the light offshore a lot the last couple of years. Chasing stubborn mangroves, big cobia, etc. I could do that every day. I like Tuna fishing but I'm not into the overnight thing more than a couple times a year.

ETA: I like making it home before dinner time and sitting on the porch with cards and a cold vodka drink. Those overnight trips wear my arse out.

I hear ya on overnighters. That's why i fish Venice now. In 2 hours you're in 1000ft+ of water catching>100lb yft.

The occasional overnighter is still fun though

I've never been on an overnighter. I would need an addy or something a bit stronger no doubt.

There's a lot of victories in the sport of fishing.
I love to chase trout, reds, tuna, and wahoo.
But when I throw those five green ones on the scales and the scales light up(sometimes) that is a feeling that can't be duplicated!!

I'd rather see 4 green numbers on the scale

I love to fish

Dont we all

What's your favorite bait?

Punchin Rig, Hollow body Frog, Texas Rig

Hooks?

As another poster said sharp ones and it all depends on what bait you are fishing.

quote:

Line?

Also depends on what you are fishing, Braid for Punchin and flouro for mostly everything else.

Rod/Reel

Shimano, Duckett, Lews, Abu Garcia

What do you make sure to always have in your boat?

Toilet Paper, never know when you gonna have to take it to the banks and unleash some shite because we all know no matter what you will catch a cramp once you get on the water.

Any websites you check out to pick up new tips?
Wired2fish and you can always ask anything on the OB

I understand. It's all where you grew up and live. It's understandable that someone from Guntersville Alabama may prefer Freshwater and it's also understandable that someone from the Northshore ma like inshore saltwater.

Good thing is in an inshore outting one may catch Bass,Specs,Reds,Black drum and flounder and maybe even an undersized Mangrove snapper in the same area/trip.

We're truly spoiled fricking rotten down here.

My favorite is surf fishing in the spring. Be in the water as the sun is coming up and have a limit back at the camp by 8 am for beers and breakfast.

Nothing beats getting out on the water and trying to figure it out. My problem is usually I don't have the time to get on the water enough, so I rely on study. Then I get out on the water and forget everything I've learned.

Heard that! I've been on the water with a bait in my hand and realizing...I have no idea how to fish with this

All of this.

Since I live in Bama now, all I can fish is bass mainly with some crappie. I only have success with crank-baits and some topwater. I've been wanting to catch a nice one with a jig or Texas Rig, but have been unable to do so. Any tips here? I tried looking at videos but I don't know doesn't seem to help I guess.

I know you said videos don't really help, but check out Flukemaster on YouTube. He's got some really good videos with good explanations.

Tx rigging

Jigs

Tx rig is extremely versatile. You can work many different baits many different ways. If you really don't know how to fish it, force yourself to learn. It has been a skunk buster for me many times. One rule of thumb is to use the lightest weight you can get away with.

A jig can be fished almost identical to a Tx rig, but I mainly use it around cover. It has a larger profile and is usually a big fish bait. Just keep in mind that there is no "one and only" way to fish these. Both can do a lot.
