I hunt on a lease in Kisatchie near Peason and the birds are plentiful, not pressured at all.

Opening morning I heard a few but they never really hammered down and hit the ground gobbling.

Saturday I heard 6 or 7 on another lease nearby.

Yesterday and today I haven't heard a single bird. We have a ton of birds but this year seems off.

I've talked with people who also struggled and think they're done or the cold weather really screwed them up.

Anyone else having problems like this?

Your story sounds completely normal. They don’t gobble all day every day. It’s normal. Keep hunting. This isn’t television.

Just weird compared to previous years where they gobble their asses off. I've hunted here 4 years and only heard birds not gobble maybe 4 or 5 times. Never back to back days

I hunt 5-6 days per week from the beginning of March until mid May in places that have plenty of turkeys. What you described in the original post is completely normal and consistent with how weather and the stage of the breeding season affect gobbling. Last week I heard 2 turkeys gobble between Monday and Saturday. Killed one of them, and killed another turkey that never gobbled. It’s normal.

I’ve Been 4 mornings. In 4 different places.
Only heard gobbling on Easter Sunday, Reaped one the day before. I see strutting activity on my cameras every couple of days for the last two months.

In short, turkeys do turkey things. Who knows.
What I do know is when it all comes together it’s the most fun you can have with pants on.
Headed to west Texas this weekend to get after some Rios.
Good luck to all.

Last two years had great days and spoiled me. Heard and worked birds almost every hunt

This year has been harder but I think my norm is busted from 2 great years

I hunt nearby and I'm experiencing the same thing. I also heard from several others that they have heard very little gobbling this year.

I heard exactly 1 gobble all weekend.

Bingo. Same is going on in AL. Birds are gobbling a little, but aren't willing to come far since they have their hens around them. Once those are bred, get ready cause they will search for new ones...

Something would be wrong if I wasn't struggling.

The only place I don't struggle turkey hunting is in west Texas. Those rios are a breeze

not hearing birds gobble on the roost in the morning does not happen every year

birds going quiet once they fly down because they are henned up? sure

but I'm hearing lots of reports around the OPs area of very little gobbling overall and this is in areas with high density turkey populations

I don't know if its due to Laura, the winter storm, or both, but something is off this year

I hunt in south Texas and there are plenty of birds but they aren't receptive to calls. We have a big oat field that they frequent and right now its basically like still hunting for deer. Put your decoys out and bring your lunch and get comfortable and sit all day. By hunting like this we were able to shoot 3 gobblers last weekend.

I would rather go fishing than do that.

Personally think this is one reason the population is down and I wish gobbler decoys and fanning would be outlawed. That gobbler that was would hang up 50 or 60 plus yards in the middle of the field got to breed all the hens he wanted to. Now he gets shot opening day at 70 yards by a jakeleg with a strutter decoy and some tss and all the hens now have to find another gobbler to breed with if they weren’t already bred Studies showing the pecking order takes a while to establish and re-establish as the hens want to breed only with the boss hog and of he is killed too early it can have negative effects. Hence why the season was pushed back in Louisiana. The best thing that has happened for turkeys in my opinion

The main other reason being weather related in past years. Floods and rainfall. Rainfall at the wrong time is terrible for nesting turkeys and there for a few years it was bad

Seeing more jakes and two year olds this year and last than I have in long time
