True but IMO that doesn't make sense.....doing all that work and reusing the old coils

[quote]Damn, oil pump?
Good chance it is. I have the same truck except a year older, loss of oil psi and tapping at idle. I ended up having the oil pump and pick up tube replaced and sensor as well. The shop i took it too checked the psi with their equipment and was really low which is why i was getting the lifter tap. Bill was about 800 bucks but truck runs good as new now and psi back like when i bought the truck.

Did your sensor stop working ? are you getting lifter tap when the motor is at idle and any period of time?
Yes and yes when idle
Oil pressure gauge at 0 but still has proper amount of oil, and yes sounds like lifter tapping on idle
Damn, oil pump?
Lifters have been knocking for a long time, oil pressure sensor went to 0 about a week ago. I’ve been checking oil daily since then and still good
I'm telling you, put a half bottle of sea foam in oil..drive around half a day and change oil...Fixed mine and my son's

You do realize your oil pressure can be zero even if you have the proper oil level in the engine. I had an 09 that did the same thing. I changed the oil and filter and my oil pressure was back to normal as soon as I turned the key. I would try that first. I would not recommend renting your own spring compressor to change the front shocks. It’s a bitch to do and dangerous AF. Speaking from experience just buy the whole McPherson strut and change it out.

A lot of folks just get the strut and reuse the oem coil, so yes you do unless you replace the entire assembly like in your video.
Correct, OP asked about changing shocks, if he just wants to change shocks and reuse the coils, which is indeed super common, then he'd need a spring compressor.
You can either change the shocks, save a little money, reuse the coils, and deal with a pain in the arse spring compressor.
Or you can spend a little extra money, buy complete coil/shock assemblies and do the swap without having to deal with a compressor.

I agree with what is above, I had a oil pressure range check engine light probably 20k miles ago. I changed my oil the next three times on short intervals(3-5k) with Mobil one high mileage and their 20k filter and my oil pressure is as high as it was when I got it. I think these engines do better with shorter intervals vs what the computer says.

I recommend Bilstein's if they are available.
I second the recommendation on Bilsteins. I installed Bilstein B6 shocks and struts on my 2011 Pilot and was surprised how much the ride and the handling improved.

The oil pressure sensor has a small wire mesh screen/filter below it. Pull sensor, pull the filter out and throw it in the trash, put sensor back and you'll never have another problem. The seafoam in the oil method and changing your oil more often are just clearing that damn filter causing your sensor to read properly again.

Rear shocks are easy. Front shocks inside the spring not so much

I’m needing both done, 08 Silverado. Seems maybe the oil pressure sensor wouldn’t be too bad
Had oil pressure sensor issues on my 08. ended up being a fuse which links oil pressure sensor, brake lights, and cruise control.

You can buy quick struts so you don’t have to compress the springs on the front.
Absolutely this, because you said this:

I’ve never done shocks before.
I'm fairly mechanically adept, and I'm not messing with a spring compressor on a truck strut assembly. I bought the quick strut when I did my Ridgeline. (insert "not a real truck" comment here).

Well I’m looking at those. For sure I’m gonna replace rear shocks myself and I’ll order Bilsteins. As far as front, if I do myself I may get those also, if I let a mechanic do it I’ll let them put whatever they have on them.

I know but damn I just changed my oil a month or so ago

I just went and picked up the oil pressure sensor from Napa, my luck it probably is a fuse haha, I’ll check that also, I’ve got a crap ton of good fuses in my glove boxPosted on 5/18/21 at 10:31 am to Flats

I’m leaning toward letting someone else do my front and I do rear myself. Rear looks like just a couple bolts and that’s it. Had someone replace my wife’s shocks on her suv and price honestly wasn’t so bad, she had to get new rotors and one of shocks was leaking so I had them go ahead and replace them, it’s like a brand new vehicle now and I got jealous so I’m doing my truck

The lifter thing probably isn’t a big deal if it hasn’t suddenly gotten louder unless you’re noticing it burning oil or something unusual
I can’t remember what it’s called, AFM disabler? When truck goes from 8 cylinder to 4, I put the disabler on for that. Prior it had a small oil leak and tapping was very loud, once I got that on oil leak stopped completely and tapping quieted down maybe 50%

How many miles on the truck? Me my dad and brother all had 08s and they all went out between 60 and 100k

Just under 200k
Needs to last another 200k
