I tried my hand at making a knife once, about 4 years ago now. I enjoyed it, but the motor in my belt grinder went out as I was making it, so it was the only one I ever made. I've been thinking lately I should get a new motor and make a knife for myself. I gave the first one to my dad.

It's 1085 steel with spalted hornbeam scales that I cut from a stump. Photo is before I gave it a final edge.

Just flat bar stock.

That's the only one I've made, and like I said, I gave it to my dad. So, no sales, unless you offer me enough to take it back from him.

I've made some using blanks.

I really don't have a way to harden the steel to make one out of bar stock.

I tried to make a simple propane oven out of bricks, but ended up heating it in a charcoal grill. It worked well though.

A guy just offered to give me a kiln, which is what made me think about this.

Nice looking knife. I've got a few old box end wrenches that I've though about converting to a knife. They look really sweey and you don't have to go thru the tempering process.

nice, I have made a few, from old sawmill blades and bar steel. I don't have the patience to make the blades. I now purchase the blades and make the handles with axis antlers.

Thanks, guys. It's certainly not on the level of some of the knives I've seen by other people. But, I was happy for a first attempt.

As a kid i fancied myself an elite weaponsmith. Made all kinda shite, my favorite was a crossbow out of a ruler and pencils.
