Ducks starting to show up around Cenla. I had to make a quick trip to southern Arkansas yesterday and we saw TONS of birds wherever there was water off of the highway. Hopefully they keep coming down.

Just came out of wax lake, hunted near the mouth. We didnt get to shoot our guns. Everyone else did around us tho. Saw a fair amount of teal. Very few big ducks.

Slim on ducks but lots of geese. The marshes south of there are supposedly doing well, I have heard.

Limits

But we rely heavily on teal to get those limits.

Pintail were good in first spilt

This will be the last year in my lease. Our numbers of birds and quality of birds have been dropping for 10 to 12 years now.

I can no longer justify the money and time invested...

...it was 15 years ago that we had a no teal policy - save the limits for mallards, pintail and gadwall. Those days are long gone.

I haven't seen this many divers in my area ever, especially dogs. Same with the Coots.

Teal have been steady but the greys are down in numbers for sure. We typically have a slow week or two around Christmas every year, while first split is good to great and the closing week or so gets sensational.

Made my first trip of the year Friday in central Louisiana.
We killed a four man limit (Ten Green Heads, Four mallard hens, Four Gray ducks, a few woodies and teal, and Two Pintails).
Saw hundreds of ducks in large, high flights.

Yesterday, the reports weren't as good.

Richland Parish

A few of the die hard hunters are already out...only the legacy guys and young wanna be duck commanders left out there.

There will be blinds open next year - but no one is wanting to fork over the cash to shoot spoonbill and teal.

Everything started declining in 2001ish and it just has not recovered.
