I've had this thing for about 7-8 years now...but at the beginning of last year, it wasn't working, so i took it home and blew out the gas line with the compressor, and it worked for the rest of the year.

This year i had to do the same, and it worked for about an hour. Since then, i've had to blow out the line 3 different times. It'll work for one hunt, then it does the same thing the next time.

It's like the pilot flame isn't strong enough to light the ceramic burner. Maybe too much trash (dirt dobbers probably) in the line? Which i would never be able to get out i presume.

Thoughts?

I don’t know but the one I got last year did that right out of the box. Still can’t get it to work.

Spray some carburetor cleaner down the pilot light gas tube.

Make sure you let it dry before you try and light the heater again.

If that doesn’t work it could be a thermocouple starting to fail.

Are you using the small disposable bottles or running a hose from a larger propane tank?

Sounds like the thermocouple has crapped out. LINK

This is what keeps the pilot light lit. They are a frequent problem with water heaters as well as in home gas furnaces.

Does it have a thermocoupler?

It it has a pilot the pilot heats a thermal coupler that heats a thermoswitch and opens the gas to the main flame.

Start there!

yes, but the pilot isn't shooting far enough to heat the thermocoupler, if that makes sense.

Mine did the exact same thing. I tried everything, threw it in a dumpster

Worked flawlessly for like 5 years.

Need Santa to get me another

Think I'm at this point. The two coldest hunts of the year (26 and 31deg) the damn thing crapped out on me. Which would be fine had I dressed for that...but I wasn't.

My nephew came up to hunt this past weekend, and I wanted to buy a Mr Heater for him to use. Found one at the local Tractor Supply on sale for $69.99--normally $89.99. No carry bag, but thing worked perfectly for him.

A friend is having a similar issue with his, and it happened for the first time last weekend. I've had mine for a couple of seasons with no issue, and have definitely got my money's worth. As soon as mine starts acting up I'll replace it. Quite honestly, I've gotten spoiled.

ETA - i wish i would've invented the damn thing, seems like everyone i know has one.

The exact morning mine went to crap.

Nothing but a long sleeve tshirt and blue jeans. Planning on a long walk in, heater was already in the box.

I just put all the windows back down except for the front. Eventually I stopped shivering.

I have had this problem with certain brands of disposable bottled gas. Some work flawlessly and another brand won't keep the pilot lit or any little move or breeze and it would go out. May make zero sense but it has happened to me.

After a summer in storage, mine would sort of light the pilot with a very weak flame then go out.

After all else failed, I read the owner's manual. It recommended taking a Q-tip, dipping it in alcohol, and swabbing the pilot tube to get out dust that may have accumulated in storage. LINK

I had to pull some of the cotton off of the Q-tip to make it fit, but that did the trick.

Like the guy said who recommended a spray of carburetor cleaner down the pilot light tube, let it dry before you try to light the heater again.

If you are using a large propane tank, not the little screw in bottles, you are supposed to have a filter in the hose line. If you didn't use the filter, that may be the cause of problems.
